Abbey Theatre

About Abbey Theatre

Voluntary run community theatre

Abbey Theatre Description

The Abbey Theatre is managed by the registered charity, Nuneaton Arts Council, and manned almost entirely by volunteers.
It has a 250 seat tiered auditorium, with an additional seating area to accommodate wheelchair users, and two rehearsal and meeting rooms.
The entrance foyer has a licensed bar and coffee bar.
The theatre acts as the host venue for amateur and professional events throughout the year including dance shows and festivals, stage plays, tribute bands, and pantomimes.
It is also home for several amateur performance groups who regularly use the rehearsal rooms.
The Abbey is open 11 months of the year, normally being closed throughout August in order to carry out maintenance and upgrades to facilities.

Autumn Half-Term has no less than three opportunities to entertain the kids for an afternoon at the Abbey Theatre. Tues 30th Oct (linked below) sees the Norwich Puppet Theatre bring their touring version of The Frog and the Princess - re-telling a classic tale through wooden marionettes.
Then Wed 31st we have Disneys' comedy romance cartoon "Tangled", full of songs and laughs and the obligatory animal sidekick. :)
... Thu Nov 1st we have another Disney animated movie - this time the very recent smash hit "Coco".
All three events are at 2:30pm and our coffee bar will be open from around 2pm, so drop in early for a drink. Note that Frog and the Princess is aimed at 4 yrs and up and both movies carry a PG certificate.

The new theatre season starts up again soon, and you can get a sneak preview of some of the shows and events we have lined up for you a the season launch night on Sat September 1st. Featuring performances on stage from the Masqueraders, Sudden Impulse, Rabble Youth, NAODS and the Abbey Players, plus trailers for some of the films and shows on the calendar, it should be a great night to come down and have a drink with the volunteers and maybe pick up some tickets.

A return performance from The Improlectuals after their Nuneaton debut back in July. Four local comedians, one foyer bar, no script... You, the audience, decide on how the evening progresses by offering suggestions for topics, and the guys have to create the gags based on what cones up... 😅 In the style of "Whose line is it anyway" this went down a storm last month, so book your tickets online now.

STOP PRESS. A press release has just issued by the NAC (with supporting comments from both NBBC and WCC) announcing that the feasibility study for the proposals for a new arts complex has now begun.
Both local authorities have agreed to part-fund the cost of this study, being carried out by DCA Ltd, our chosen theatre-build consultants, and the time frame is this to be completed within the next 3 to 4 months.
... Invitations have already gone out to many of the local regular user groups for them to meet with DCA to give their thoughts on the plans, and we hope that the end result will be highly favourable and mean that we can move forward with further planning and funding applications to make the dream a reality.
Thanks to all those who've supported us so far, and who will continue to do so as we progress.

User

We've be the Abbey several times, it's a great little find. Always been very happy with the quality of the performers, staff, and prices. We're already booked for 2017. Keep up the excellent work.

User

We went to see back beat Beatles fantastic. Staff very friendly lovely little theatre.

User

Watched Snow White and 7 dwarfs and thought the props and lighting were excellent. All the NHS staff involved were so good. It didn't seem like an Amateur production, they all seemed very professional. The theatre was lovely. Just the location and parking spaces lets it down.

User

The abbey theatre isn't like going to the theatre. It's like going round to a mates house. Everyone is really friendly and the bar and front of house volunteers second to none. The variety of shows that the abbey put on would rival any other provincial theatre . There's something for everyone. Theatre cinema comedy concerts rehearsal space drama academy the list is endless!

User

User

It's small..... but cosy and I believe the word is 'intimate'. Had a good experience....staff very helpful and friendly (and all volunteers I hear!). It's a bit of a drive for us (30+ miles) but I would go again

User

I went to Abby theatre last night what a fabulous night I had it was the best night I have had for s long time my lovely friend Janet looked beautiful she was lovely all the cast looked great love Vanessa xx

User

Fabulous little theatre, everybody is so passionate about what they do. They put on a real variety of shows each month. It's great for the community as a lot of local groups can't afford to hire some of the bigger theatre's as their prices have become ridiculous including Bedworth Civic Hall, but with the Abbey Theatre they keep the hiring costs down and attract a lot of shows which otherwise wouldn't be able to perform. I believe the Gang Show is on very soon, which is always great fun.

User

Excellent friendly staff comfy theatre and great shows, what more could you ask for, oh and they make a lovely cup of coffee x

User

Awesome little hidden gem. Now been 3 times well run very friendly and the performances well worth it. For the record Evita, Made in Dagenham, and Private Peaceful . Will be seeing Spamalot soon .

User

Always well run, friendly atmosphere, great shows.

User

Absolutely brilliant performance yesterday. My daughter and I both really enjoyed it, staff at the abbey theatre were all so friendly. The guy I spoke to about my tickets was brilliant as had problems with booking. Have been to the abbey theatre a few times and have always had a good experience

User

Casual theatre, good location & free parking after 5pm. Lowered tiered seating so no view obstructions for petite people. The only downside was the lack of card payment faculties & at times the level of music drowned out the actors.
