Wish could give more stars as it deserves it. Our room was amazing it was huge also had a jacuzzi bath. Definitely had the wow factor. We had a meal the restaurant the food was amazing waiter was very friendly . The only criticism of the restaurant was the course seemed to come out very close together. After the meal we went through to the bar the waiter offer to bring through the rest of my bottle of wine and the ice bucket the bar Amman was very friendly too.

I do feel breakfast was bit of let down not very friendly staff not rude just not chatty or helpful. That aside plenty of choice of food for breakfast yummy rhubarb juice

Reception staff were lovely too

Can not recommend this hotel enough

Will most definitely be returning at some point

Thank you so much for a fantastic stay

User

What a most fantastic hotel and the most amazing staff, we had our wedding at this venue a day and must admitted it exceeded our expectations, the whole setup was totally professional and nothing was too much for the staff. Thanks Abbotts Barton for helping our dreams come to life.... and a very special thanks to Magdalena and Aura. Claire and Sarah xxx

Our group from Germany had a truly wonderful stay, some of them in England for the first time so it was a very good introduction to the "English way of life". The staff, the food, the rooms - all excellent. We felt so welcome, nothing was too much trouble. I heard some say they would come again with their families. I personally enjoyed the very attentive service at the meals. An easy walk into the city made this the perfect location for our stay. THANK YOU for everything!

User

It was a small & intimate hotel, the service staff were all full of warmth, friendliness & pleasant. The room was well appointed, space wise was adequate for our 3 adults sharing. The service staff at breakfast were efficient & friendly, especially Pietro who is 78 years old & runs a tight ship guiding & showing the young staff professionalism, pride in your work & great work ethics.

I love this gothic hideaway - it's so quiet you would never know the busy, bustling Canterbury City centre was just 10 minutes walk away.

We have stayed here twice now in room 104 which is spacious with a large ensuite bathroom.

The food here is delicious with vegetarian and gluten free options. The chef seems happy to cater for all dietary requirements.

I can't help thinking of Hogwarts when we come up the drive - it must be the turrets! Wow! What if they start doing Harry Potter themed afternoon teas or parties or rooms!!!

User

A picture perfect hotel, warm and hospitable.

The rooms are tasteful and comfortable. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant but public transportation and of course cabs are close by to take you to the city centre where you can have your pick of eateries . Our favourite pub, called The Crossed Keys have delicious food.

I highly recommend this charming hotel.

User

Went for Christmas party here. Meal was lovely and the little extras on the table made for a fun evening! Only downside was how hot it was everywhere, particularly in the bar area. Also had a radiator on next to the dance floor so we were roasting! Overall though lovely festive venue, friendly staff and would go again

User

We had our wedding here and found the staff attentive and helpful. They were short staffed which did result in a wait for room service and the bar. However nothing was too much trouble. Particular thanks go to Emma who took over from the previous wedding organiser who had left. Emma sorted everything out with calm efficiency. Lovely gothic style building.

User

The hotel provided us with excellent service. In fact the staff provided the excellent service, special mention to the reception desk staff and also the breakfast restaurant staff👏👏👏👏 a great location if you wish to spend time visiting the Cathedral.

User

Staff was friendly and welcoming. Beds were very soft and uncomfortable. The heating was left on all night and it got uncomfortably warm - and I love warm! Breakfast was a nightmare. The couldn't bring food out regularly so we ended up

Having to wait a lot for sliced bread and pastries. It did the job for a place to stay after a wedding. I would definitely recommend it for one night but not for a longer break.

User

Lovely hotel, warm and friendly staff. My only complaint would be the heat around the building - thankfully the room had aircon. Unfortunately this was so noisy it kept me awake most of the night. We ate in the hotel restaurant one night and the food was fantastic and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely return if we got the opportunity. Well situated for a short walk into the city for shopping and eating out

User

Just a couple of things, Heating was too hot, and the bar staff a bit vague, and the Elephants in the room above never rested.

But lovely Hotel, with miles of corridors, great breakfast!

User

Got married here two years ago and returned for our anniversary. Staff were polite and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. We were given the bridal suite, which was lovely, spacious and clean. We has a nice touch of an anniversary card from the staff too. Meal was good but did have to wait a while, even though it wasn't that busy. We will return!

User

The room was nice, stopping in a large family room, but it only has 4 single beds no doubles, strange. The bar menu is shocking, only 4 mains. Ordered the fish and chips, the fish had the consistency of mash potatoes and the "hand cut chips" were burnt. I tried to complain but they just smiled back at me. Would not recommend. I stop in best western all the time, this is by far the worst . :(

User

Nice friendly staff and the hotel was clean and accommodating

Food was lovely. The negatives would be the room was not very spacious and getting a drink from the bar in the day was a mission as you had to go to reception to find someone to serve you. And they do not serve cocktails.. Who doesn't serve cocktails???.

User

Had room 107, was very noisy, kitchen air unit outside window, made a loud humming noise all night, could here everything going on in room above us, toilet flush, lights on and off, cupboard, draws open and closed, people walking around. Also room by main door access so all noise in corridor as people move about, so all in all no sleep until people above left at 7 am. Shame as was clean room with everything you needed, no late checkout thou.

User

Where do we start..... numerous things not available on the menu. Wine list was very limited. No wines available that were suggested on the menu. When we mentioned this we were told that it was the end of the week (how is that an excuse). No cheese, 50% of the entrees not available. So we move to the bar. The bar tender was not only rude and had no clue. Couldn't make a martini and didn't know the difference between rum and bourbon. One of the customers was passed out on the ground and he walked over him to collect glasses. Considering the price of the rooms this is appalling. Made a complaint to the night manager who did his best to rectify these problems that should of never happened in the first place. The night manager saved the situation but his staff need training in manners.

This hotel looks beautiful on exterior and lovely decor and features, However very disappointed with service in the dining area !! The waitress was very blunt and unapproachable, I was eating my dessert a creme brûlée which was very nice and the pot completely shattered over my hand and caused my hand to bleed. I was calling for the waitress and asked for a cold compress for my hand. The waitress was unapologetic and made it no rush at all to get a towel for my hand. The manager of the restaurant took my dessert and drink off our bill however I still did not receive appropriate care for my hand !!! I am not sure the incident has even been reported appropriately! I feel there is more they could of done for me. The staff made me and my partner feel very uncomfortable during the dining experience, so we rushed to get back to our room ! In the room where we were staying ( room 203) the tv didn't work very well, there was cobwebs in the bathroom however most of the room was clean. The bed was majorly uncomfortable so sleeping wasn't too good. There was two fire alarms that went of in the early morning which woke us up (no apologies for this when discussed at checkout) overall we did not enjoy our stay! We just wanted a romantic night away somewhere relaxing and welcoming. This hotel was certainly not any of these! We generally visit a few hotels in the local area for special occasions and this is definitely the worse one, I have never complained however the service we received was just shocking! First stay at abbots Barton hotel never again. Waste of money!

User

Staff are lovely but dont be fooled by the clever photos of the hotel, its old, dated and has a 'lawn' not 2acres of grounds as stated. Food is nice but unless you eat off the fixed price menu it is extremely expensive. Also my double room was two twin beds roughly pushed together (made up as twin beds).
