In the Baby Room last week, it was our Spring Discovery Week; which involved lots of sensory activities. The babies enjoyed exploring using a range of their senses from touch and sound etc. They loved the sensory bags and how they all felt different from each other. Also they explored the metal objects and how they sounded different when they tapped and hit them. Some of the older babies enjoyed spending time in the coloured rice play-using containers to begin to fill and empty. Some of the babies even sat in the tray and explored with their whole body! They all had a very enjoyable week!

Last week was our amazing Spring Discovery Week where the pre-school children learnt lots about the life cycle of the butterfly, putting together letters to make simple words, painting flowers by looking at real life ones in the environment/setting, using real vegetables and soil in the tuff tray to explore and use their imagination and expand their understanding of how vegetables grow and looking at creating flowers using pompoms and counting the correct amount for each page, learning to recognise their numbers and the quantities to match. What a fantastic and busy week all the Pre-Schoolers had!

Discover our range of learning and educational activities at our Discovery Week!
We believe that it is important for parents to feel confident that whilst their little one is in nursery, they are constantly developing and learning. Following the educational goals set by EYFS, we create an environment where a child can express themselves and experience a strong balance of educational activities!
Our Discovery Week includes activities such as experimenting with playdough where ...children can explore the texture, learn about measurements, use new language to discuss and describe their experience as well as improving social skills as they play with others.
Current and new families are all welcome! We look forward to seeing you all.

As it was National Science Day, the Nursery Room decided to try out different experiments! The first was the volcano with a cup and bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and food colouring! The children watched in amazement as it bubbled right over the cup and into the tuft tray. All the children shouted ‘bubbles!’ The second experiment was watching bath bombs fizz. The children again were all mesmerised by them dissolving in the water: "It’s getting smaller and smaller and smaller" ..."It’s going to go bang!" towards the end of the bomb fizzing, "Getting lumpy!" They then decided to look at celery and food colouring. They used their senses to explore the celery. They smelt, use their touch to explore the texture. The children dipped the celery in the food colouring and commented on the colour of it. This process, the children came back to the experiment throughout the duration of the day to watch as the celery changed colour completely to red! They commented that the colour had gone "to the top! And grew!’"

Yesterday was National Science Day, so in Pre-School they decided to try out a few experiments. One was the volcano using bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and food colouring. The children were fascinated as they helped create the experiment: "This is called lava!" "I put vinegar in it and it bubbled!" Another experiment was the lemons and coins in the water tray. The children had to try and balance a coin on a lemon whilst it was floating in the water (it’s very hard to accompli...sh!!). The children tried very hard: "It won’t stay on!" "It fell off the lemon!" The final experiment was using shaving foam as clouds in plastic cup and using pipettes with blue food colouring to create rain clouds! The children explored and watched how the food colouring passed through the shaving foam and into the bottom of the cup.

Today is PANCAKE DAY!
In Pre-School they have been creating their very own pancakes using a range of ingredients. The children loved exploring the tuff tray and how to make a pancake. They uses rolling pins to flatten out and created circles for their pancakes. Also the staff incorporated maths into activities today by creating pancakes with numbers and dots on for the children to match the numeral to the amount of dots they can see. Cathy, our cook made pancakes for snack and the children self-served and chose their own toppings for them; raisins, honey, lemon etc.

The children had a choice of what they would like to play with in the Nursery Room. 2 children were really excited and asked to help create a ‘Dinosaur Land.’ Mel asked the children what they would need to make one and the children gave her lots of ideas. Edward said “We need huts for their homes! And we need sand with the huts.” This was a brilliant activity as it had lots of different sensory resources for the children to experience and they very much enjoyed the independence of creating their very own ‘DINOSAUR LAND!’

Internet Safety Day
Today is Internet Safety Day and in pre-school they had a big group time this morning with story books explaining how to be safe when using the iPads and tablets. The children enjoyed the book and Shirley was asking lots of questions about safety. Also, within group time they were talking about safety near water, near the road, when your shopping. As a setting our iPads are specifically aimed at 0-5 year olds with educational games and they do not have acc...ess to the internet. Lucy then was with smaller groups, allowing children to choose the games they wanted to play and watching their friends, waiting for their turn. The staff also spoke about that if anything on the iPad/tablet pops up on the screen which they are unsure about to show an adult straight away and close the screen down.
“Pre-School children are online for an average of 71 minutes a day and over half 3-4 year olds use tablets,” Source: Ofcom Children and parents: media use and attitudes report 2016. There are a few tips to ensure your child’s safety when they are using the internet: Choosing safe, fun and educational games free of charge from providers like Fisher Price or about their favourite characters; encouraging children to use devices in a communal area and keep passwords away from children so they cannot access the internet/tablet without your permission.

Exploring our new space
We have had a great time this past month exploring our new space and rooms. There is lots of lovely new equipment and resources for us to play with and use our imagination. Lots of opportunities to problem solve and explore the environment around us.

Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you.
We are proud supporters of Internet Safety Day and we join millions of people and organisations worldwide in creating a better internet. We have committed to communicating relevant messages to ensure children are aware of how to be safe on the internet.
Our aim is to reach not just to our children and families that attend our nurseries about the safe use of the internet, but further; our staff teams, our ...own extended families and network of friends who may have children of all ages right up to 18-year olds.
We hope to lay the foundations early so later on in children’s lives they are aware of how important it is to use the internet safety and responsibly.
Our Internet Safety Parent Packs are just the start and some parents may not feel it is relevant at this stage of their little one’s lives, but educating from an early stage of responsible use of the internet, is key. Our packs are available from the nursery so just ask a member of staff for one next time you’re in or you can find out more yourself at www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-d ay/2018

A message for all our parents and carers that have had snow fall over the weekend. We will be open as normal tomorrow but please be mindful that we respect the safety of our staff members as well as you and your children so drive carefully in the morning and allow extra time. We can never predict the weather and if in the unfortunate case of staff struggling to get in on time, please be prepared to wait until we have enough staff, though this is not usually the case. We appreciate your understanding. We hope you have all had fun in the snow today.
