About Able&Worthy

In 2019 my Fiancé's little sister and my younger brother were both diagnosed Autistic. Through pained eyes, I have watched them as they stumble through the world misunderstood by outsiders. I've asked myself what will be their next steps after their teens and what job will nurture their unique needs. I've feared that they'll hide away from the world because they're aware that they perceive things differently to those around them. I wanted them to feel empowered, to grow and feel confident enough to share their true selves in the community. I wanted them to see for themselves that they're not alone. In fact, they're just 2 out of an estimated 700, 000 people in the UK. I started to research Autism to understand more about my families future. I was shocked to find only 15% of autistic adults in the UK are in full-time paid employment, and only 32% are in some kind of paid work. Able& Worthy was born. An idea for a social enterprise cafe that will only employ autistic people in Sheffield. We will teach skills on socialising, cooking and nutrition. We will be a support network that allows those on the spectrum to connect with like-minded folk. We want to be a stepping stone for people with autism to find their own independence. We believe in creating a safe and respectful space where they can feel open enough to share their creativity and ideas. We're going to be a whole foods plant-based cafe. Having been vegan for 3 years, I have realised that healthy and vegan doesn't mean compromising on taste. In fact, I've found that it's made me more excited and passionate about food. We're going to put vegetables on the map creating honest food from simple ingredients making a plant-based lifestyle accessible for all. Feel free to follow me on my journey to make this goal a reality.
