About Abortion Rights

Abortion Rights was formed in 2003 by the merger of the two long-standing and influential campaigns – the National Abortion Campaign (NAC) and the Abortion Law Reform Association (ALRA). We oppose any restrictions in women's current rights and access to abortion. We aim to improve the current UK abortion law for women, to make abortion available on the request of the woman. We aim for all women in the UK to have equal access to safe, legal, and free abortion and to improve their experience of care. We seek to build the widest possible support for a woman's right to choose and encourage individuals and organisations – women's groups, trade unions, political representatives, academics and students, health care professionals, minority ethnic, lesbian and gay and disabled people's organisations and all others to get involved. We are an active membership-based democratic campaigning organisation. In additional to individual members, we are delighted to have the support of NUS and civil society organisations as well as the TUC and national trade unions including AMICUS , ASLEF , CWU , FBU , NAPO , PCS , RMT , T& G , TSSA , UCU , UNISON , STUC trade union regions, branches, sections and individual trade unionists. We are an independent campaign, without any government or church funding. Money from membership and affiliation fees, grants, donations and our fundraising Pro-choice Lottery scheme is crucial to sustain our important work. If you support a woman's right to choose, why not make a real difference and join Abortion Rights today!
