It’s with real sadness that i woke to hear of the passing of Niki Lauda. As a child of the 70’s I was fortunate enough to follow the F1 scene whilst living in Germany, touring Europe from weekend to weekend, fabulous times. My motorsport hero was the wild & crazy James Hunt ‘the shunt’ and during this era of tragic loss I, and any motorsport enthusiast, will always remain in awe of the heroic come back made by Niki after his horrific crash at the ‘76 German F1 Grand Prix, hi...s strength to survive and win are truly remarkable, proven by the fact that he won the following years F1 Championship and again in ‘84 Whilst some portrayed that the rivalry between Niki and James as a bitter one, both had great respect for each other and a true friendship which carried on in later life. When James Hunt passed away in ‘93 I lost my childhood hero but to hear of the loss of Niki Lauda today I find leaves me with the same sadness. A technical wizard, a fierce rival, a true survivor, accomplished businessman but most of all a true gent. Rest in Peace Niki Lauda.
