Academy Costumes Description
In 1984 - after a spell of nearly 10 years at The National Theatre and 2 years of supervising numerous West End shows - I decided it was time to open a costume making company near to the heart of London's Theatre Land.
After creating costumes for an assortment of theatre productions it was not long before Academy started branching out into commercials, television and inevitably the film world.
The huge success and reputation of the company led to expansion and the creation of Academy's Rentals Department. Although we initially collected and hired an assortment of different periods and types of costumes we eventually decided to specialise in the 20th Century and our stock now starts from around the 1900s to the 1980s.
Academy has become an umbrella company for various aspects of costume and now also includes bespoke tailoring, in-house design, weddings and most recently the addition of Academy Textiles.
