Agedashi dōfu (揚げ出し豆腐, "Lightly deep-fried tofu") is a Japanese way to serve hot tofu. Silken (kinugoshi) firm tofu, cut into cubes, is lightly dusted with potato starch or cornstarch and then deep fried until golden brown. It is then served in a hot tentsuyu broth made of dashi, mirin, and shō-yu (Japanese soy sauce), with finely chopped negi (a type of spring onion), grated daikon or katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes) or dried wakame sprinkled on top.

Yakisoba (焼きそば), literally "fried buckwheat," is a Japanese noodle stir-fry dish. Although soba means buckwheat, yakisoba noodles are actually made from wheat flour, and are typically flavored with a condiment similar to oyster sauce. The dish first appeared in food stalls in Japan during the early 20th century.

User

We've been here twice now and both times they have been great. We had teppanyaki both times which was awesome, very friendly and chatty and great food.

User

Was driving through the area and found this small sushi restaurant, wasn't expecting much to be honest, but to my surprise, the food was delicious and comparable to sushi bars in London!

The staff are very friendly and they also have a teppanyaki grill with a chef cooking to order in front of you. Highly recommended!

User

Lovely, friendly & attentive waitress & accommodating staff. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. The Teppanyaki Chef was brilliant and he showed off his cooking & fire burning skills! My kids loved the sushi. They've travelled and tasted Japanese food around the World and could not fault it! We will definitely be going back and recommending Achimi to our friends. This is a restaurant worth eating in! This was a real treat on my birthday!

User

On various recommendations, we went to Achimi last night. We had booked (actually left a message on their answerphone) a table for 7pm. Given the appalling state of parking in Beaconsfield (as usual), we were a few minutes late, but the place was in full swing when we walked in. The teppanyaki was being manned and all the seats around it were occupied.

We got to our table and were asked by the younger of the two waitresses if we wanted drinks; we ordered these and some spicy edamame beans whilst we were looking at the menu.

Just then the older of the two (who had already made it clear from her body language with other customers that this was her restaurant) appeared by our table to take our order. We hurried to try to give her something to write down and said that once we had had what we had ordered we would consider what else we might want. She was clearly not happy with this, murmuring that there were lots of people in the restaurant and that ordering again later would be very inconvenient. However, before we could decide on what to have after our sushi/sashimi, she took the menus out of our hands and disappeared.

The food arrived fairly shortly after this. It was, I must say, some of the best we have tasted in this country and elsewhere. Particularly good was the "special sushi roll".

When we had finished, she came back and asked if we wanted anything else. As the first course had been so good, and to try to ease the pressure on the waiting and cooking staff, we had decided to go for pretty much the same thing again.

It took about twenty minutes before she came back to take our order, and another twenty after that before the food (again, delicious) arrived.

All the time, she was moving takeaway customers around the restaurant, at one point asking one who was waiting for an order to wait outside....... although luckily when the customer understandably grimaced at this, she offered him a place at the only empty table instead.

Conclusion: Excellent food, and not at all bad value for that type of restaurant. But they really need to a) get much more organised with the throughput of takeaway customers, b) get one more member of waiting staff (at least for Saturday evenings), and c) remember that customers usually prefer not to be "chivvied up" when out for an evening meal.

Recommended for the food, though, which means we will be going back!

Visited with another couple. After 20 mins we had to ask to order our drinks. We ordered 4 set meals with 2 extra starters. 1 starter arrived at the same time as the main dish. We had to ask where the rice was, and also we hadn't had our other starter and also the miso soup and salad that came with the set meal. Response was 'we're very busy', well if your that busy stop accepting people walking in off the street as you obviously can't cope. Rice eventually turned up, the final starter, miso soup, salad and dessert all at the same time.

Really poor service, very small portions and very expensive. Won't be returning.

User

I have been eating her for about 5 years. But it's now under new management and a new chef. My takeaway tonight was awful.

The bloodline was still in one of the fish, the prawn hadn't been gutted well . A proper sushi chef takes seven years to train....
