One of our favourite things to do at Acorns is to act out stories! This week we have been re-enacting "Rapunzel"

Having had a good Easter holiday - with not too much chocolate hopefully! - we are now back at Acorns and looking at the signs of Spring! We have drawn some bluebells which we planted, do you like our drawings?

User

Please don't be scared, but there are a lot of dinosaurs at Nursery this week! Have a look at all of the fantastic creatures the children created! They aren't dangerous, and they don't bite though!

First of all, we would like to say "thank you" to all of our parents and friends who congratulated us on our Ofsted "Good" rating! We appreciate your appreciation! We had a good time celebrating Red Nose Day last week as you will see in these photos!

The staff at Acorns Nursery School in Calcot are not the sort to "blow their own trumpet" However, we would like to share what OFSTED has just reported about us, and wo we can allow them to blow a trumpet about us instead! Here are some of the statements in our Ofsted report: "Staff work confidently with the children and have good relationships with them." "Children show caring attitudes towards each other" "Parents feel well informed about their children's development and sp...eak positively about the nursery and the warmth and friendliness of the staff" "All children make good progress" "Children are confident, enthusiastic learners who are keen to explore and investigate." A huge thank you to all of our parents who took the time to talk to the inspector, and to our wonderful children, we are very proud of all of them! It is a delight, and a privilege, to work with Acorns Nursery School children and to see them develop and grow!

It's been a musical week at Acorns Nursery School! The children always love our action songs and, this week, we had our own orchestra!

User

It is Yummy Pancake Day at Acorns Nursery School today!! The children have been cooking pancakes, and then we had a race! Great fun!!

Having had a restful half term, we have returned to Acorns and been visited by the Police! No, we haven't been naughty(!) the Police told us all about how they help us and then we all got the chance to go inside the Police car! The children absolutely loved this! We will be having another visit this week so that the rest of our children can meet our local policeman and go inside the police car!!

We hope that all of the Acorns children and their families are having a happy half term! We've been asked by West Berks Council, to advertise a survey which they are carrying out into the work of Health Visitors regarding two year olds. If you have a spare minute (!) please can you complete the survey! Thanks, the link is: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/hvusersurvey

This Friday 15th February we are holding one of our very popular "Come and Play" afternoons from 2 - 4 pm. If you are looking for a preschool for your child from September 2019,please join us for refreshments, toys and lots of fun!

This week we have been putting food out for the birds to help them to cope with the cold weather. Then we have been looking to find out which birds have been visiting our garden. Can you see us in our Bird hide?

Acorns is open today Friday 1st February as our hardy staff are trekking into nursery on foot⛄️If you are coming to Nursery by car, please check the road conditions. Langley Hill has a lot of traffic plus buses so might be clear, Radio Berks will have updates. Thanks

Before it got quite so chilly this week, the children at Acorns worked together to make a big building out of our large wooden blocks. They were very proud of what they had built! Budding architects perhaps?

User

We have been doing a Science investigation this week. We were predicting, then finding out ,what things floated or sank. The investigation moved indoors today because of the water freezing outside - despite using warmed water!

User

What a lot of fun we have had at the start of the Spring term! We have been using our pincer grip (which is important for holding, and using a pencil!) to pick up pieces of cold spaghetti! It was really slimy!

User

Having had a well-deserved rest over Christmas and the New Year, we are looking forward to welcoming existing, and new, children to Acorns to the start of term tomorrow. Every thing has been cleaned, the toys washed or steam cleaned and we are ready to go!!

User

We had a fantastic time at our Christmas party yesterday! Take a look at our photos! We built a "snowman", delivered presents, Father Christmas visited and we all had some delicious party food!!

We couldn't resist sharing this video of our delightful children singing the Snowflake song (made up by the teachers to the tune of "I hear thunder") We just hope that this doesn't encourage a snowstorm!!

Our daughter, Alexis, attended Acorns Nursery 2016-2017. She loved it. The environment is calm, caring and stimulating. The teachers are fantastic, considerate, highly professional and knowledgeable and are great at working with parents. The resources available at the nursery, including the lovely garden are wonderful. This week, our 2.5 year old son started with a couple of sessions. He was instantly at home and I have no doubts he will grow to love Acorns as much as Alexis did. I am so glad that the educational journey of both our children started with Acorns. We couldn't have asked for a better start! Thank you.

My eldest son went to Acorns two years ago and my youngest goes now. It is a wonderful pre-school, the staff are amazing - experienced and attentive. They have fantastic space both inside and out, with a great range of toys and activities, that they change along with the weekly theme. My eldest developed so much in his time there - he grew in confidence and independence, he was able to write his name and start on phonics, it really prepared him for school. Both boys love Acorns and we as parents couldn’t be happier, we would definitely recommend.

My daughter went to Acorns and loved it. A year on and she often says 'I wish I was back at Acorns. Very nurturing, great activities. All staff are lovely and such a lovely place to prepare children for school. Would definitely recommend

Both our children have attended Acorns and absolutely loved their time there. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, professional and most importantly, caring of the children.

Both my children have attended Acorns Nursery and both have thrived in their caring and nurturing environment. The teachers are considerate of childrens' individual needs and encourage them to reach their full potential via exciting activities and imaginative play. The nursery has different rooms and a lovely spacious garden with covered patio.

My children have thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon stay and play sessions to begin with (age 3) and then morning and lunch time session during the last year before reception. Acorns have contributed to preparing the children for the big change that primary school brings. They are great at keeping family in the loop about what is happening too. I would definitely recommend Acorns to any parents and carers.
