Our first concert of 2019 will be on Thursday 14th March when the amazing Kevin Dempsey and Joe Broughton return to Stanley Halls for their annual visit.
Joe has been playing since he was in the pram and has a PhD in circus skills and mad banter. Kevin has been around a bit longer and has played a few more notes. Musically they're tighter than two coats of paint. Combining emotive songs, unrivalled instrumental capability with high energy, they never fail to create a spellb...inding atmosphere.
The list of musicians they have played with is impressive... Whippersnapper, Mary Black, Joss Stone, Dando Shaft, The Urban Folk Quartet, Fairport Convention, The Albion Band, Dave Swarbrick, Percy Sledge, Bellowhead....but it can't prepare you for this unique partnership. They draw on Folk music from all corners of the world but their experience in Jazz, Soul, Classical, Pop and Rock music takes the result into original and uncharted territory. Kevin has a fantastic voice and is widely regarded as one of Europe's greatest acoustic guitar players, whilst Joe is simply unmatched in the world of fiddle pyrotechnics. To top it all, the Dempsey/Broughton show is playful and entertaining; you almost have to pinch yourself and remember to take it all in as they swoop from beautiful song to mind blowing tune via a stream of hilarious banter. This is an evening you won’t want to miss. Doors at 7.00pm for 8.00

This is going to be a very special gig, two weeks tonight.

We are really looking forward to welcoming the Gigspanner Big Band to the lovely Stanley Halls in Croydon on Tuesday 20th November. It’s going to be a fantastic intimate evening, of great music and our fully licensed bar will be serving local ale and cocktails all evening!
Gigspanner was formed by Peter Knight, formerly violinist with the legendary Steeleye Span. The band is boosted by Edgelarks duo, Hannah Martin and Phil Henry, who are no strangers to Stanley Halls, and ...are also members of the Band Of Love that played at the Radio 2 festival in a day at Hyde Park this summer.
Tickets are available from the Stanley Halls website. Stanley Halls is easy to get to by public transport, just moments from Norwood Junction railway station with fast links to London Bridge, Victoria, East Croydon and the Overground network.
