Action For Information

Action For Information (AFI) was founded by a group of British students, graduates and young professionals aiming to help refugees arriving in Europe get the knowledge they need to settle in the EU. Our journey began in November 2015 when we volunteered with the Al-Khair Foundation at the Macedonia-Greece and Serbian border camps. Deeply moved by the resilience and hope of the refugees we met, we knew we wanted to return and do whatever we could for those in need. Team AFI also believe we can help longer term - by supporting those arriving at our borders in a more fundamental, practical way. More than 1 million refugees made the crossing to Europe in 2015. Along the treacherous Balkan route, so many of them (from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and North Africa) face dehumanisation, abuse, restriction of movement, and have little or no access to information about their journey. Many families hear rumours about kidnapping and extortion. Most refugees know what country they want to go to, but don't know what to do or where to go when they get there. In collaboration with the Afghan Medical Professionals Association of America (AAMPA) and HOLD International, team AFI is creating one central resource for refugees arriving in the EU and continuing its work on the ground in early 2016. By working with local partners and incorporating existing projects (like Refugee Info), we aim to provide clear facts about asylum processes in different states, information on legal aid, key country-specific contacts for new arrivals, as well as general and official advice about starting a life in a new place.
