Some of the most heart-warming changes I see regularly in my practice are patients telling me that they feel better in themselves; they are sleeping better, feel calmer and more upbeat generally. This always lifts my heart. Wellness is not simply absence of symptoms. Wellness is also being able to live from a place of peace, in vibrancy and aliveness, connected to nature, connected to the small whispers of our heart and to all that is.
THE STILLPOINT OF THE TURNING WORLD I’v...e always loved this phrase by T.S Elliot. We all have triggers in the world that affect our emotional well being, be it temorarily with parking tickets (mine this week!!), family rows, an upsetting diagnosis or... whatever it is that's presenting. Sometimes we don't know why we are not feeling good emotionally, we just know that we don't.
As the world spins, can we still find our peace? What limits our capacity to be here and be still?
For me, stillness evokes mindfulness. Being present to the sounds of leaves under our feet, to the colours that are changing all around us! And it means more than that! It means feeling connected to the greater unfolding of the web of life, sinking into the awareness that we are all held in a deep mystery, allowing ourselves to be part of that.
From here, I can watch the world spin! From here, I find I’m not caught up with the tangle of emotions that the spinning world brings. What limits my capacity to be here and be still? Forgetting to be mindful!!
A simple pause to breathe all this in before we rush headlong into the day can make a huge difference!
And for those times when it’s a struggle to do that, Acupuncture can have a big effect on our ability to watch the world spin without making it our web!!
10th October is World Mental Health Day. Acupuncture helps serotonin levels, lifts mood, induces relaxation, calms anxiety and helps with sleep. Please message for more info: andreaharrisuk@aol.com

Thank you so much for liking my page :-)
Am writing up anonymous case studies at the moment, currently one on treatment of menopausal issues. Acupuncture can be so very helpful with hot flushes and host of other difficulties. It's particularly important to support the adrenals as they take over the oestrogen's function until a woman is about 70. There are some really great herbs that I work with too, depending whether oestrogen or progesterone is dominant. #menopause #acupuncture

It was so great to be amongst 200 or so acupuncturists at the British Acupuncture Council conference last weekend. After 20 years of practice, I still love deepening my knowledge of this ancient and effective practice. There’s so much to learn, I came away full of the joys of my profession!! A few of the seminars stood out for me.
In particular, Amos Ziv, ‘Magical acupuncture point combinations for INSOMNIA that actually work’, reminded us that the brain needs darkness for m...elatonin to kick in (another reason why light emitting screens are a no- no at bed time!). He also spoke of the importance of being in bed by 11pm. After that time, according to the wheel of the Chinese medicine clock, the liver gets active and the brain starts planning and organising. This makes it that much harder for the mind to switch off and settle (ever start planning your life at 1pm?).
The other seminar which stuck in my mind was Rebecca Avern’s discussion of TEENAGE ANXIETY and DEPRESSION, an epidemic of our time! Social media, exam stress and over stimulation coincide with a time when the adolescent brain is changing rapidly. Acupuncture is an amazingly effective treatment for teenagers who are struggling. It doesn't involve much talking and very fine needles can be used (or no needles even if they are anxious about this!).
Acupuncture has so much to offer in these situations and more! Do message for more info if you would like.
