Hey all, over at the 'Label Worthy' Facebook Group, I've been asking people to take part in a songwriting challenge. The idea is just a bit of fun but will hopefully spark some creativity and will give you the opportunity for feedback from other members.
So here's something I've been working on currently. It's a brand new idea, only a verse and a chorus but thought I would share it to kick things off. Let me know what you think.

Is the Shure SM7b the answer to your vocal mic prayers?...... Probably not!
This mic, the SM7b, gets banded around on various internet groups/forums as ‘the best vocal mic under a grand’ or ‘the only vocal mic you’ll ever need’, or my personal favourite ‘Michael Jackson used this mic on Thriller’ 🙄 particularly in the pop and rock communities. However I’ve heard just as many people try it (or buy one) and instantly regret it.....’what the hell have I bought?’
The reason, I su...spect, is because the SM7 is SOOOO heavily dependent on the mic preamp. This mic can change DRASTICALLY just by switching out the preamp! Unlike a condenser mic, it is extremely low output, which means to get a decent signal, you’ll need to crank the gain - thus imparting character from your preamp! If you have a good preamp, great - you’ll probably love it! If you don’t, or are using the preamps in your interface then you could very well hate it!
The answer isn’t necessarily a ‘clean’ preamp either (though it might be). Some of the best preamps are often coloured. I love my SM7b on the right singer. I run it through a Neve 1073 which has a ton of gain on tap, and the more you crank it the dirtier it gets, and it sounds awesome.
Bottom line: Don’t buy this mic thinking it’s going to be the answer to your prayers, or get you that ‘Pro’ sound that you’re lacking (whatever that means?!). Try it first, because unless the rest of your chain is up to scratch, then it’s likely you could hate it, and you may find saving up a bit more money for a decent condenser in the £500-£1000 range is a much better option (unless you’re prepared to fork out for a preamp as well).

Super professional studio! Had some mastering work done my Adam and i couldn't be happier!

So when we did our last full album, Eye In The Void, we wanted to pull a lead single out of the batch. We chose the track, All Go, and wanted to make another version of it which would stand outside the album for potential radio play and general spam purposes. The Adam Fiasco mix, which was a from scratch mix, focuses on the bass and drums more to give the track a harder edge to what was otherwise a more ethereal-sounding song in the contact of the album. I've recorded so many songs with Adam Fiasco and every time I've had an amazing finished sound. So professional! I love the fact I can record there & feel utterly relaxed.

I had my single mixed and mastered at this wonderful studio. After using many studios/producers in the past, this was far the best one that I've ever used. I will definitely be using FiascoStudios again soon!

I couldn't believe the standard of the equipment in this studio when my band first went to check it out (considering the very reasonable rates Adam charges). Then having heard some of the work to come out of the studio we were keen to get booked in - and the end result certainly didn't disappoint. We have what we consider to be a 'commercial standard' record due to be released in the next couple of months and we couldn't be happier with it. Adam also provides superb service and communication - putting in a considerable amount of work (even after the fact) until the band are 100% happy with the end result. We have a very specific sound as a band and Adam worked with us to replicate that sound on the record. Would recommend to any artist looking for a high quality recording.

He effortlessly combines his very obvious technical knowledge and prowess with the fact that he is himself an amazing musician, enabling him to produce outstanding results. Definitely recommend Fiasco studios! We went to see Adam after efficiently organising a time with us, we we're very impressed with the equipment he'd selectively set up (he knows what he's talking about!) and booked our first single recording session.



We had a brilliant day, he made us feel comfortable and at home there, and recording was smooth and effective, combining both our music requirements as a band and his recording knowledge and musical talent of his own. After the day communication was kept and a few mixes of the track were sent to us, changing them as requested without issues until it was 100% perfect, bearing in mind it wasn't far off that with the first mix! He offered great advice on videos, distribution, artwork etc too to help us promote it.



Will be definitely returning for future singles and EP's

Brilliant studio run by incredibly talented people. Not only did they put together a track for me from scratch. They provided great Input during our recording session recommending harmonies and lots more advice. To top it off they provided me with two incredible intimate video recording. I will definitely be returning to fiasco studios in the future.
