Another Avin Android unit post, but we can’t get away from them as they are so popular!
Had a terrific, probably one of the lowest mileage and amazing condition 2008 X5 3.0sd in today, for the widescreen Android unit add on, updated reverse cam instead of the poor factory cam, and Apple car play. This car had the now ageing ccc Dvd based I drive. It now has full android capability, apps, google play store, google maps, Apple car play, Hd reverse cam, parking lines display on... camera, dvd and movie playback, Spotify, Waze, movie streaming etc etc. Massive update to the factory I drive system.
Car had only covered 18,000 miles from new, interior is still like new, seats like new etc, even still had the new leather smell inside! Not something you see every day on a 10 year old car, we haven’t seen one like this for a long time!
Fantastic Car with such low mileage, we were over the moon to get the chance to facelift the dash and bring it in line with todays technology. Customer was really happy too!

Yet another 4 series in for a timing chain on the verge of letting go!
This was a 2014 430d, covered 80k miles.
Customer reported a noise from the engine, on inspection we suspected the chain.
... As you can see, the noise was clearly the slack/stretched timing chain, the tensioner is already at full tension and can’t tension the chain any further.
The customer saved himself a huge amount of money by getting it done before it snapped and caused catastrophic damage.
At £960 all in, parts and labour included, vs the cost of a potential full engine rebuild or replacement, we know which one we would rather pay!
Timing chain replacement intervals is a subject that is debated again and again. Bmw advise the timing chain is “lifetime”, but Bmw also say they class lifetime as 100k miles. We always advise, if you want to look after your car, it’s a good idea to do the chain at 100k miles. Some cars go past this mileage without issues, some start showing issues before 100k like this one.
Preventative maintenance is the best type of maintenance!

Lovely set of genuine Bmw M- performance Lci Darkline rear lights and new looms, supplied, fitted and coded to an F30 335d.

Another Zf 8 speed gearbox serviced along with a full main service, this one on an x5 40d.
This lovely x5 has covered 60,000 miles, and the gearbox has been serviced bang on time, according to the gearbox manufacturers schedule. Zf clearly state the 6 and 8 speed auto boxes should be fully serviced every 60k.
Customer wasn’t experiencing any issues, and he can be safe in the knowledge it will remain that way, after adhering to ZF’s service schedule.
... The gearbox service is often overlooked, and missed by many. Regardless if you’ve got full service history with your car, if you’ve not paperwork to show it’s been done, then the chances are it hasn’t.
Don’t wait until you have problems, snatching gears, holding gears, jerky changes, hunting revs etc are all symptoms of a gearbox that is crying out for a service!

10.25” Unit fitted in a lovely 435d m sport today, great car with great spec, just the standard factory I drive with the tiny 6.5” screen let it down! Customer is over the moon, and at £570 for the system and screen, who wouldn’t be!

Here’s a really nice and tidy example of an e46 m3 cab we had in, for a couple of issues.
Customer reported a wobble under acceleration, and was having major issues with his smg gearbox, popping out of gear & not selecting gears, to the point where the vehicle was undriveable.
Another garage had told him the smg pump was knackered and replacement at over £3000 was his only option, along with his diff needing a rebuild/replacement at another huge cost.
... We investigated, and found the gear shift position sensor to be faulty, along with the prop shaft doughnut being split in numerous places.
We sourced a genuine new bmw gear position sensor, fitted it, reset the gearbox calibrations and teach in procedures, and also fitted a new prop doughnut.
The car now drives perfectly, with no issues at all, and all this came in at under £900 including parts and labour!
One very happy customer to say the least!

2011 BMW X5 3.0d N57 engine came to us with a reported sound from the engine bay.
We had a listen, and strongly suspected timing chain rattling. Engine was promptly removed, and upon further inspection, it was evident this one was ready for letting go! Finding this before it snapped or jumped, has saved the engine from catastrophic failure, potentially saving the customer thousands upon thousands for an engine replacement.
... We fitted a new genuine Bmw timing chain, tensioner, guides and sprockets, all at a competitive cost of £1000 all in, and completed in 3 days.
Car was on 110k Miles. Although bmw state the chains are lifetime chains, nothing lasts forever, and it’s good advice to replace your timing chain at around 100k miles. This is what we always advise, and this job shows why. Preventative maintenance is the best type of maintenance!
