Starting out as an intimate, clandestine shindig held in a pub in north London, Angel Dust has grown into a forward-thinking party brand with big ambitions. Focused on pushing the boundaries of today’s oversaturated music events markets, Angel Dust represents diversity, open-mindedness and hedonism in plush, countryside locations. With almost 10 years of experience within London’s fertile club scene, the team behind Angel Dust saw a clear opportunity to work beyond the confines of the city limits to expand their horizons, and those of their clientele, to present electronic music in settings that offer a more natural, festival-esque atmosphere than the city. Think castles, country houses, the great British outdoors – a largely untapped resource, which provides a unique alternative to the standard club-based backdrop. Now, with their sights set firmly on establishing themselves as party specialists of the highest order, Angel Dust are preparing to enter the next phase of the brand’s evolution…

It all started in a pub in north London, where co-owner Akil Varinda found himself renting a room back in 2007. With experience in running events in his home nation, Mozambique, and Portugal, together with years of partying and a close circle of like-minded friends Akil organised a housewarming party which was to be the catalyst behind the birth of Angel Dust. Off the back of the success of his first shindig, the owners of the pub allowed Akil to covert the basement into a club space, where he installed a sound system and brought in friends such as Matt Hardinge (Motek) and Ben Coda (Nanoplex) to play records. Word soon spread about the illicit after-hours event and it continued to attract a regular crowd of open-minded music lovers keen to carry on the party once London’s clubs had shut their doors. Angel Dust quickly established itself as a go-to after-hours event, picking up a loyal following in the process.

Sadly, time was called on the notorious parties when the pub was purchased by a development company. After some deliberation, Akil and his partner Francis Abolo Luka, decided to keep Angel Dust alive and began by transporting the event into some of London’s best-known venues. Egg, The Arches and several other key east London locations were all used to host the event. However, though they were all successful, both men felt that the original vibe was lost in an official club environment.

During a brief sabbatical, Francis and Akil visited Slovakia, where they attended a party in a castle where Akil had been booked to play. It was that soiree which provided the perfect remedy to their need to continue with Angel Dust while retaining its alternative nature. So they returned to England inspired to put on their own event in a similarly unusual location. In a short space of time they’d organised the first in their ‘Mansion Series’ of events – a weekend-long affair held out in the countryside and featuring appearances from many of those who made the original Angel Dust such a cult party. Some of the capital’s best underground talents provided the music, while an on-site chef prepared food, a marquee was erected as a chill out space and the space inside the venue was opened up for attendees to stay overnight.

The weekender was a roaring success and word soon spread amongst the Angel Dust extended network, leading to demand for another one… Which has been duly met, with plans afoot to hold three more mansion parties during 2015.

Three bespoke mansion events are already planned for 2015, with Akil and his Angel Dust Knights team also lending their organisational skills to providing stag and hen parties with a unique alternative to the typical weekend away.

It’s a new beginning and one which will undoubtedly set Angel Dust apart from its rivals within the UK’s electronic music events business. Years of experience coupled with a unique vision will ensure that they continue to provide the very best in party vibes for a long while to come…
