About Admiral Rodney

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the heart pub-food

Admiral Rodney Description

The Admiral Rodney was built during the 1950's, next to the site of another pub called The Rodney, which was demolished at the time. The pub is named after an old local hero, George Brydges Rodney who as an admiral defeated a Spanish fleet in 1780 and a French fleet at the Battle of the Saints in 1782.
A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

first time I've been last night, beautiful food and staff were lovely

User

What a lovely, friendly pub. We were there Wednesday (pie day) with our week old grand daughter and her parents! Staff friendly, food great quality and value and definitely very baby friendly! We will be back next time we visit.

User

What a fantastic place. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent as was the service. I will definitely be visiting again and would recommend my friends and family for a great night out.

User

We’ve always enjoyed ourselves at the Admiral Rodney, but today, the lovely Kate, went that much further to make sure everything was good for us. My husband has recently discovered a severe intolerance to onions & garlic, therefore also leeks, which means eating out can be problematic. Kate listened to his food choices, then went to the kitchen to check ingredients. Again more choices, and again Kate happily checked for us. Decisions were made, and his food came, and was thoroughly appreciated. If only service was this good everywhere. Definitely 5 stars

User

We absolutely love this place! The food, drinks and service are always superb! We recommend to all our family and friends.

User

The food so fresh and tasty can’t describe with words, the place, service... all awesome. I will definitely go back at next opportunity

User

Thank you for a excellent meal this afternoon. Turned up on spec during Sunday lunch hours, and nothing was to much for them. Friendly staff and good food. Well done all.

User

Loved this place.. what a nice place for food and drinks in the out door area..

User

Love this pub :) the staff are always so polite, friendly and welcoming. (My husband and I had our first date here nearly 5 years ago! and we come back at least monthly). The food is always yummy (I was sad when the seafood risotto disappeared though ). The atmosphere is vibrant. But if I'm honest I come for the wine at the Admiral Rodney, as alot of the other local pubs are either real ale pubs or ' don't have very good wine' pubs hope this helps future visitors!

User

I’ve given 5 stars because we did have a lovely night, the food was very good and the service was the same. The bar man was very efficient on a busy Valentines evening and our waitress was lovely the only complaint I have is that we were so cold. We were initially seated next to a fire escape door and it was literally blowing a gale through it, we asked to be moved which was accommodation straight away but then there was a lovely log stove which was not topped up so went out. I was that cold after we had finished eating we had to move again. This did cut our night short as we would have stayed for more drinks if it had been warmer. Such a shame as I’m sure this caused a lot of people to leave early also. Let’s hope they get it sorted !!

First class food wonderful food nice prossecco and fantastic views

User

Cannot believe how basic our Sunday roast was, meat, the little we got was dry and unappealing (beef). Portion size for adults was basically the same as child size but double the price. Extremely disappointed with going out of our way to try somewhere different, the result not worth the effort and definitely over priced I have had better quality from common pub carvery at less than half the price. My advice do not bother as we won't in the future.

User

Been for Xmas lunch today.... Thank you so much to the staff that gave up their day to make our Christmas lunch a very special one... I have honestly never had such a lovely Christmas meal anywhere else and the atmosphere was fantastic we would would definitely go back.... Merry Christmas and thanks again... The simpsons

User

Amazing pub in a fantastic tranquil location. Great for after work drinks or a evening meal in this vintage decadent village pub! Great value for money without quality being compromised. I got a real sense of family when I walked in Dan/Paige and their team welcomed us with open arms!!

User

Well done on introducing the vegan menu, and especially as it wasn't some half-hearted nut roast with tomato slop that used to pass for an "alternative" at many pubs and restaurants.

Everything was delicious and the roast vegetable tart was especially nice.

That menu has changed the place from somewhere that I wouldn't normally bother with to somewhere that I will look forward to coming back - in fact I am going to suggest a walk to friends that ends at the Admiral Rodney so I can have an excuse to come back again soon, as I was too full from a starter and main to try one of the puddings!

User

Nice pub... great food, well presented tho a bit pricey. Some great beers available. Very comfy pub plenty of seats available. Recommended.

User

Invited to the new menu taster evening yesterday. Very impressed with the food served and will certainly be sampling the new menu soon. Hopefully the refurbishment and overhaul will see more staff serving at the bar and not doubling up waiting on which has been a problem for us in the past.

User

They've spent money refurbishing the place, but its the same old story, they are always understaffed. Visited for lunch, there were 2 staff serving behind the bar and the girl behind the bar also only one waiting on tables. When we came to ask for the bill there was a big queue at the bar wanting drinks so had to wait in line. Food OK, but not really worth the money you pay. This could be an amazing restaurant, but the staff and chef are so complacent, they spoil it. While we were there staff were too busy trying to light the fire! Why not do this before you open!!! Also says they open at 11am, but when you turn up doors rarely open before 12pm! Get a grip.

User

Disappointed in the service tonight. We’ve been coming here for years and tonight dared to question how a started platter with 3 chicken wings could have cost £17 which resulted in one of the staff striding over and asking ‘what’s the problem??’ Before bringing us the bill and patronisingly breaking it down for us, suggesting ‘I can see how when you look at it, it could seem expensive for some people’. Ridiculous considering we were regulars and knew all previous staff on first name basis. All we dared suggest is that the portion size wasn’t what we were used to. Left very unhappy.
