The company helps a number of different good causes locally, nationally and globally. The main charity it supports is Julia’s House, the Dorset-based children’s hospice. Currently 40% of AES’s employees donate to the charity — which this year ranks 23rd on our list of 100 Best Not-for-Profit organisations — via payroll giving. Last year 12 people, including chief executive Bungard, took part in a nonstop 100km trek across the South Downs and raised £13, 000 for the organisation.

Training includes sessions from call-coaching to product knowledge modules and the majority of those who don’t work in a customer-facing role are also given a £3, 000-a-year budget for any external development that will enhance work-related skills.

Case workers get a basic salary of £18, 000, but a pay review every quarter gives everyone the chance of a rise. AES offers a quarterly bonus of up to 10% based on business performance. Staff, who are excited about where the organisation is going (87% ), are happy with their pay and benefits (77% ). Both are top-five scores.
