African Child Trust: helping the people otherwise forgottenFormed in March 1999 and now working in 35 communities in 8 African countries the vision of ACT is to relieve poverty and advance development in Africa by educating orphans and disadvantaged children and empowering needy widows through training to generate income to sustain their families. Our vision is to give disadvantaged children the opportunity to achieve their full potential in life and assist needy widows to develop skills through training so that they are able to generate income to sustain their families. Our aim is to break the cycle of poverty among poor people in Africa. We have three main goals: EDUCATING children- Educating vulnerable disadvantages children: orphans, children caring for siblings, children of single mothers -> from primary school up to university /tertiary educationEMPOWERING widows- Empowering needy widows with business skills workshops and literacy, identifying skills and strengths, counselling services, information on inheritance and human rights, microloans ENRICHING communities- Providing technical & material support for local schools- Sanitation and health project initiatives
