About African Initiatives

African Initiatives is an international development NGO based in Bristol, UK. We work in partnership with grassroots organisations in Africa to support marginalised individuals and communities to exercise their human rights. We have particular expertise in working with the Maasai and other hard-to-reach pastoralist communities living in remote areas in northern Tanzania. We manage programmes relating to girls' education, women's rights, secure livelihoods (including land rights) and access to health services. By finding African solutions to African problems, African Initiatives brings lasting change to some of the poorest people on earth. African Initiatives is funded by the Department for International Development, Comic Relief, Trusts & Foundations, and individual donors.
