A Mighty Afrikan Queen is Born
In 1583, a little baby girl by the name of Nzinga Mbande was born. Her entry into the world was not an easy one. As the legend goes, her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck when exiting the womb of her mother. The local villagers, however, saw this as a sign of good things to come as babies born in this manner were predicted to grow into powerful, proud people.

... According to a village wise woman, Nzinga would one day become queen, and while her prophecy did eventually come true, it wasn’t exactly a shot in the dark. After all, she was the daughter of the King of Ndongo, which comprised roughly half of the divided nation now known as Angola. Throughout her childhood, Nzinga studied her father and how he ruled, but unlike him, she became completely invested in the struggle of her Ndongo people against the tyranny of colonialism.

This all transpired during a time in which the Portuguese had singled out the population of Angola for the slave trade. At first, Nzinga’s father helped the Portuguese establish their slave trade in the region on the condition his people be spared. However, upon his death, the Portuguese discontinued this arrangement, threw his son in jail, and seized control over the Ndongo kingdom ....

The Kiira EV Smack is the brainchild of students at Makerere University in Uganda. In 2011 they developed the "Kiira EV Proof of Concept" and since then they have made advances on the design.
The EV Smack is a 5-seater electric hybrid vehicle with a rechargeable battery and houses an internal combustion engine based generator which charges the battery.
Some of the parts were designed and sourced locally while others although designed by the team were manufactured abroad and a...s one of the design team said, “Most manufacturers import some parts for their cars”.
The project is being backed by the Ugandan government and they have already invested $70M, a further $350M is being sought to set up an assembly plant and commence production of the car this year (2018).
The cost of the car is said to be around $30,000 which is a bit pricey for the average Ugandan, but there will be hire purchase deals over 5 years for the not so well off.
All in all, good news for the continent and it’s pleasing to see the great strides that are now being made in Afrika regarding technology and industry.

Recognized globally as the father of digital cellular technology, Jesse Eugene Russell is the major contributor to the development of mobile phones. He trained as an electrical engineer at Tennessee State University, USA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.
In the initial stages of development, cell phone technology was more car based due to limitations on the bandwidth that was available. Russell came up with his idea, which was to reduce the bandwidth requ...ired and so make the cell phone truly mobile. As a result the mobile phone business went from a million-dollar industry to a billion-dollar industry, as customers could now use their phones anywhere.
Russell held top positions at Bell Labs, including Director of Cellular Telecommunications and Chief Technical Officer of Network Wireless Systems. Thanks to Jesse Russell we can all communicate with each other anywhere around the world.
We congratulate him on his massive contribution to global communications.
