Aikido Katokan

About Aikido Katokan

We teach Aikikai style Aikido. Classes will suit the level of students training and so beginners are always welcome.

Aikido Katokan Description

Aikido is a 20th century martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969). Ueshiba, known as O Sensei (Great Teacher) studied many martial arts, including the 'Samurai sword' and traditional Jyu Jitsu. He developed Aikido to promote peaceful relations between people through cooperative practice of Aikido as a 'way' of living. Before his death in 1969 he was recognised for his lifetime achievements in the martial arts by the Japanese state with an Order of the Sacred Treasure.

Chief instructors Yvonne and Patrick have studied and taught Aikido in several countries. Both have more than 30 years experience in Aikido and have studied other martial arts. Both hold 4th dan black belt grades (Yondan) from Aikido World Headquarters in Japan.

Class fees are £5 per class (discount for monthly rate) and an annual membership fee (includes some insurance cover) for continuing students.

Been studying a 'pvp' jo kata with Mark sensei at Clifton Aikido Club. The whip you can produce when you relax your shoulders and arms is incredible. Thanks again, O Sensei

Aikido Katokan remains in 'sabbatical' mode at the moment. We are training with our friend Mark at Clifton Exercise Club in Bristol. When the summer is over we will look for a new venue and get going again. http://theexerciseclub.co.uk/aikido-class -clifton-bristol/

We are waiting and helping MyGym in their search for a new venue. In the meantime we went to this weekend seminar by Dominique Pierre sensei who is high graded in Aikido, Iaido, Jyodo and Karate. Humble, witty, very skilled and a fine teacher. Thanks to the folks at Fudoshin Aikido Cardiff and Bath Aikido Society for hosting.
