Aisha Mosque & Islamic Centre

About Aisha Mosque & Islamic Centre

Aisha Mosque is the largest and one of the most unique community centres in Walsall. Located between the multicultural neighbourhoods of Caldmore and Palfrey, the Mosque has good links with all religious minorities in the area.

Aisha Mosque & Islamic Centre Description

In the early 1960s and 1970s the number of migrants from South Asia increased in Walsall which necessitated the building of a Mosque and Islamic centre for the Muslim community.

A small house at 97 Rutter Street was acquired for religious purposes but soon became a victim of the redevelopment plan.

Thus activities were relocated to 25 Corporation Street. The old, decaying building was used nonetheless as the headquarters for the all important next transition.

In 2000, an extension was deemed necessary and work began for 6 classrooms and an additional hall upstairs. Once again the funds and majority of the extension work was completed by the local community.

This truly is a community Mosque which reflects the diverse ethnic mix and works in partnership with other organisations.

The Centre consists of a ground floor and an upper floor. The women’s prayer gallery overlooks the main prayer hall on the ground floor, and so too, onto the beautiful dome above.
