We've seen this message doing the rounds again recently and, whilst we applaud the 'never give up' message, unfortunately it isn't true that Coca-Cola only sold 25 bottles in the first year. (It wasn't originally green either - that was just the bottle it was served in - and it also wasn't sold as a medicine.)
In 1886 the 'real thing' sold for 5 cents a glass and creator Dr. John S. Pemberton sold, on average, 9 glasses a day. He sold 25 gallons of syrup in the first year o...f trading and for his efforts grossed $50.00 but spent $73.96 on advertising.
This shouldn't deter you if you're a business owner or entrepreneur though. The Coca-Cola brand is the only grocery product to have had sales of over £1bn in the UK and it now sells 1.9 billion beverage servings every day in more than 200 countries.
