Al-Karam Trust Mosque - Milton Keynes Description

In the early 1980s, the Muslims of North Milton Keynes had nowhere to pray, with the only established masjid situated in the south of the town too far away for many to attend. In 1982 the Muslim population of North Milton Keynes used to pray in a house in Wolverton. Their application for planning permission to convert the house into a masjid was denied.

It wasn’t until the mid-eighties that a masjid was finally available in North Milton Keynes. Despite most of the Muslims in North Milton Keynes living in Wolverton, the first space offered to them was in New Bradwell, a mile and a half away. A hall formerly used by Jehovah’s Witnesses became available and the Muslim community jumped at the chance to have a masjid of their own.

This small hall was extended in the mid-nineties when the adjoining shop was bought and converted. A sisters' area was added upstairs and the house next door was also bought, where the full-time imam now lives. The masjid currently accommodates approximately 450 brothers & 150 sisters.

Since the change of Imaam in 2012, the Prayers are now open for all of the 5 daily prayers, there is a dedicated Madrasa, dedicated Arabic & Tajweed classes and the the Friday Khutbah is now in English. This is a major update to how the Masjid was run prior to 2012 as the Mosque was only open for the Friday prayer and the Khutbah was in Urdu.
