Albrighton Trust Moat And Gardens Description

The Albrighton Trust offers educational and recreational activities for people disadvantaged by disability, special needs or illness, who are welcomed and supported whatever their capability.
We have a proven track record of supporting the most hard to reach in society providing positive outdoor activities, offering opportunities to enhance or change lives.
Visitors’ health and well-being is the priority and its improvement through a programme of exciting and diverse activities which engage the imagination and push back the boundaries of normally accepted restrictions. Visitors can increase their practical skills in horticulture, Angling, Woodcraft, Conservation and Wildlife.

The Resource Centre and Gardens were designed around a 13th century scheduled Moat, now converted to an angling facility with six wheelchair accessible platforms and stocked with many native species of fish. Landscaped and natural gardens offer unsurpassable recreation and relaxational opportunities with a variety of wildlife to tempt children - and adults - into active participation.

The trust has worked under the expert guidance of English Heritage and also the Environment Agency both of whom have contributed greatly to the success of the overall project by offering their invaluable support at critical times of development.

A group from the RAF Cosford Defence College of Technical Training kindly volunteered today at the Moat. They installed cables to extend the reach of our wildlife observation system and also got their hands dirty by turning the compost over and clearing silt and weeds out of one of our ponds. A BIG thank you from everyone at the Moat and Gardens for your hard work.

We have what we thought are squirrel proof bird feeders, we've had to screw the lids down because they learnt how to get the lids off! Now this clever little chap has learnt how to get in and out of the protective cage...not sure what we do next?

It was a funny enjoyable Christmas Party at the Moat yesterday. We had volunteers, angling coaches, supporters and friends attend. We played many party games including pass the parcel and we had a visit from Santa aka Pete handing out presents.

If you haven’t bought your loved ones a special gift yet for Christmas. We still have plenty of handmade woodcraft items we are selling, built by our volunteered woodcraft team. We are open on Saturday 14th between 10am – 3pm if you would like to pop into the moat to purchase one of our lovelies.

The Albrighton Trust was contacted by the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre to take part in their community pantomime project, 'Paving the Way'. Our volunteers were asked to create an art display of butterflies to be included in a larger art installation with the theme of Dick Whittington. The art installation is on display to the public from 10th December to 12th January during the pantomime season. Several schools, groups, organisations and charities were involved in the display, as you can see, what a great job everybody did.

We would like to thank The Arts Society Wrekin for kindly raising £800 for us when they ran their Annual Festive Talk and Tea event at the Red House in Albrighton. Please read the full article in the Shropshire Star by clicking on the link.
