The new bowls season started this weekend. On Saturday we had President V Vice President then on Sunday we had a friendly against Headley. The weather was perfect for both days, great way to spend a weekend playing a sport in the sunshine.

Underwood played our Ted Moore Triples competition on Saturday. The weather was pretty good with just a shower during lunch. The final was a close game with the scores level going into the last end with the eventual winners being Keith, Brian and Mike.

Our first friendly of the season was at Seale and Sands. We started the game in brilliant sunshine, but our bowling wasnt the same as the weather!! After 9 ends we went in for tea losing on all rinks, but after a good feed we rallied and ended up losing on only 2 rinks and by 10 shots overall. Although we didnt win it was played in a good spirit and both teams went for a well earned drink afterwards.

The new bowls season got underway yesterday with the opening fixture of Captain versus Vice Captain. The weather stayed dry and once the bowlers got used to the weight required to reach the jack some good bowling was achieved. For those interested the Vice Captain team won. This was followed by a tea fit for the queen in honour of her 90th birthday.

A great quiz evening was held at the club house with 8 teams of 6 competing to win the title quiz team of the year. 8 rounds of questions of various subjects ranging from music, history to human body! The team triumphant at the end was a team from Farnham bowls club, not sure what that says for the brains of Underwood, but we will be back. A small consolation was an Underwood team picking up the prize for finishing last.

We had our Club Dinner and Dance Presentation evening last night held in the Princess suite at the Princess Hall. A 3 course meal was served followed by all competition winners and runners up receiving their trophies. Once all the formalities were over the rest of the evening was spent dancing to the music of Jan and Allen. A great time was had by all.

Just come back from a weekend away at Warner's Lakeside with members and friends from Underwood Bowls Club. An enjoyable and successful time was had by all with the bowls final being played between 2 rinks from Underwood with the winning rink being Jim Collins, Clive Beal, Chas Voller and Wally Graves. As always the food and entertainment was excellent and thanks to Jim for organising it. Look forward to the next one.

The second day of our finals weekend was again blessed with great weather, someone must have been really good this year! It started with the Candy Cup with Ian Simpson winning against Derek Stiff. The mixed pairs was won by Ann Cottrell and Jack Pike beating Margaret and Brian Goodwright. In the Ladies Championship in a very close game Cynthia Abraham won against Joan Clark and finally the Men's Championship Andy Blight won against Dave Batten. Thanks to the supporters who came to watch the games it really makes a difference to the competitors, and finally to all the helpers on both days who provided the food and teas.

Our finals weekend started today in glorious sunshine and considering the weather during the week the green looked in great condition and all finalists agreed how well the green was bowling. The results are in the Stuart Packer Andy Blight won against Roger Wakem. The Ladies Handicap was won by Ann Cottrell against Sharon Blight. In the Men's Handicap which was a very close game with some good bowling Jim Collins won against Keith West. In the Ladies Pairs Margaret Goodwright and Margaret Plested beat Sharon Blight and Pam Laken and finally in the Men's Pairs Jack Pike and Andy Blight beat Vic Silvester and Dave Batten.

On Sunday 6th September we played in the final of the Farnham Mixed Triples held at Farnborough bowls club. We came up against a strong team from Farnborough who played very well easily winning on one rink so with no way to make up the shot difference the other rink conceded with 2 ends to go.
Disappointing to end the season like that but at least the club got a team to a final. All positive for next season.

We played 2 friendly's at the weekend, on Saturday we played Tongham at Home winning overall payback for them beating us in the Goolding cup. Then on Sunday we played against Camberley away losing this one overall. These where the last friendly's for this season.

Tried to update computer with windows 10 and it went wrong. But all is fixed so will give you a quick update on what has been happening at the club.
The club has a team in the Farnham and District Mixed Triples competition to be played on the 6 September at Farnborough. The Men's A & D team finished as runners up in Division 3 gaining promotion to Division 2 next year. Unfortunately we lost in both the Ken Britton and Boyd Shield competitions.... At the Farnham Ladies Invitation day a ladies triples team of Sharon, Pam and Maureen from Underwood won the competition. Well done.

Today was our Presidents Day and the afternoon went very well. We had a spider to start to raise money for the Presidents charity Parkinson's UK, Ian won a bottle of wine for having the bowl nearest the spider. This was followed by four rinks of mixed triples with a prize for the bowler having most shots Andy won this. We then all sat down for a well deserved cold meat salad and trifle. It will be our President Jim's birthday next month and he was presented with a cake and card. A very good afternoon for a very good President - well done Jim.

On Saturday we played the Farnham Mixed Triples Competition against Rowledge. We won both triples home and away so move forward to the next round.
