Hafti is my 10 year old chihuahua whom everyone loves (both dogs and people), he always helps me out with different training scenarios and he educates my lovely trainees who come to me for their residential training experience.
I haven’t really done any competitive training with Hafti for some time now, so I decided to change it - and that’s how Hafti got to perform some heelwork while helping out Obie (a beautiful Cross Breed) with some “stay” practice.
I think Hafti still got “it” in him! 🤗🐾🥰

Luna (Golden Retriever, 2 years old) was never able to stay away from her owners - who tried to leave her with two different dog boarders before, and on two occasions they were asked to pick her up after just a few hours! As apparently she was so nervous and stressed that she wouldn’t let anyone approach her etc.
It took me a good few hours to gain Luna’s trust - but with a professional approach and appropriate handling techniques suitable for dogs who don’t like to be handle...d by anyone but their owners, Luna was absolutely calm and relaxed with me and my dogs (and my husband 😀), and slept soundly through the night 👏🏼👌🏼😉😎
In this video, I’m teaching Luna to do a hand touch to further build her confidence with me (this skill will help her to gain trust with other people later on). As she’s hesitating to touch an open hand (she feels more vulnerable when looking at a hand which is full open) - I’m using a cheating technique 😀🙈 and teaching her to touch a closed hand first, and later as soon as I see that she’s ready to touch my fist - I suddenly open it so she can touch my hand with no hesitation!

Do you like going out with your dog? Personally I like taking my companion whenever I go (within reasonable limits of course!), so I do teach my own dogs settling skills or just generally being comfortable in cafes, pubs, public places.
I do like helping my clients to achieve a similar comfort when they're going out with their dogs - as sometimes their companions might need some professional help when it comes to settling skills.
Romeo (Italian Greyhound) is clearly doing ver...y well with his owners, who previously weren't able to have a relaxing meal in the pub when they were going out with him :-)

Do you know this type of people that everyone wants to be friends with..? I know, it’s rare and I’m probably generalising a bit...
But there’s definitely a dog version of this type of person - my little chihuahua Hafti (now 10 years old). Everyone wants to be friends with Hafti, even the most unsocial dog will warm up to him almost immediately 🥰🤗🐾
Do you know this type of dog..? Or maybe you have one?
... @eager.dogs - you know something about it 😀

“Sendaway” - in this exercise I love the speed the most I guess, and the willingness of a dog to reach the final destination. There’s a little tip in this video how to make a sendaway even faster 🤗🐾

I think I’ve already mentioned before that I love adding distractions into the training - and of course when training specifically for competition, adding distractions is part of the routine... But what about if distractions appear unplanned or uninvited..? (like in this video) - well, then I have to fit them in somehow! 🤗🐾

Ziggy can’t wait to get released to get his ball..! I also make some attempts to unclip his lead couple of times before letting him go. Do you play similar impulse control games with your dog..? 🤗🐾

User

I love adding some distractions when training a dog to stay... especially when your own dog is being a highly skilled distractor 👌🏼😀💪🏼👏🏼

🐾 How important is recall in our dogs’ lives..? It is certainly a very important skill as of course we want our dog to come to us once we call her name - whether there’s a danger, another dog who might be nervous, something on the dog’s fur that needs checking, or simply when it’s time to go home from a walk.
Well... to be honest with you, personally I don’t put so much emphasis on the actual recall with my own dogs - what I’m more interested in are “natural check-ins”, when... the dog frequently pays attention to you (“checks ins” with you) when out walking.
Nevertheless, I still want a dog to be able to respond to her name when called, so I do like to work on the recall separately. What about you and your dog..? 🐾

It always happens too quick and always at the wrong time (or course!) - within a second your dog finds a delicious stinky component to roll in (always when you’re not looking 🙈), and when you call your dog to come - it’s already a second too late... 😩😫🥺
One second of a stinky pleasure - 15 minutes of a pleasurable (?) bath time!
I always try to make dog’s bathing experience as nice as possible (not everyone loves being soaked in water for a long period of time...) and to kee...p any stress levels to a minimum.
Does your dog like being bathed..? 🐾🐾🐾🛁🚿🚿

Some posing during today’s very chilly 🥶 training session with Romeo, lovely naughty Italian Greyhound... he couldn’t fully lie down today due to the ground being way too cold for his body - and I didn’t force him to go further down, as dog’s comfort is far more important to me 😎☝🏼 #italiangreyhound #romeogreyhound #downstay #papillon

“Sunny has been so good! He is much quieter and calmer. He is joining our dog pack so nicely now. He has amazing eye contact now. Training very easy. He went off after a bunny in the field but came bounding back when I called him. Excellent report. He is so much character! You did well. Xx“
Sunny, Beagle Cross, stayed with me for two weeks to receive a basic obedience training. He was rescued from Cyprus where he was surviving by stealing food from tourists and hotels, and his owners found training him very challenging. I was really happy to be able to help Sunny and his owners to have a much better relationship!
