All Souls' [Hook Memorial] Church, Leeds Description

All Souls' Church of England Church is an inclusive parish church in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. It was built by public subscription in one of the poorest districts of Leeds, the Leylands, as a memorial to Dr W. F. Hook, Vicar of Leeds for some 22 years and later Dean of Chichester. The design is simple and impressive in scale: 134ft in length with aisles both to the nave and chancel, a southwest porch and a baptistery under the northwest tower. All Souls' [Hook Memorial] church was the last designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott before his death in 1878. The work ws taken forward by his son, John Oldrid Scott. Of note are the font cover, painted by Emily Ford, the wrought-iron work by Francis Skidmore, the mosaic floor by Rust, the organ by Isaac Abbott, from his workshops on Blackman Lane.
