saw Summer and Smoke today. Beautiful design and sensational acting!

User

Went to see the production of Mary Stuart today. What a wonderful experience. I was totally engrossed in the play and thought the two leading ladies were marvellous. Didn't realise the artistic director was Rupert..he used to be our old artistic director at The Royal theatre in Northampton a few years back. Thank you to the Almeida for a memorable time and such wonderful value....has to be the best thing I will ever see for the money I paid...can't believe I saw such a high quality production for such a low price...so refreshing. Thank you!

User

Unusual for us to be front row, but that definitely helped make this performance of Hamlet unbeatable. Some very clever touches in the production combined with some amazing performances (even Ophelia becomes an interesting character) all add together to make this the best Hamlet for years. Facilities at the Almeida are good, and the bar staff manage to serve a lot of people in a short space of time.

User

The Almeida is a wonderful and charming theatre which will surprise and delight it's visitors especially if like me they had never been before. They are friendly and professional and I thoroughly enjoyed our first visit and look forward to returning to watch another play soon!

User

Seeing Mary Stuart & Hamlet recently has only reinforced the notion that The Almedia is without doubt a tour de force of the theatre world.

There is no outfit quite like it in terms of sheer quality & excellence in performance ...

Productions are mesmerising, unforgettably exceptional & I'm proud to be a member of TA.

Not to make a you footnote here, but my God you have a rare rare talent Juliet Stevenson

User

Saw Hamlet last night (4th March) and it was incredible! A wonderful performance, most notably Andrew Scott in the title role - absolutely mesmerising - and four hours absolutely flew by! It's a lovely theatre, a great space, intimate and comfortable.

The staff were very efficient and friendly and my only negative is that perhaps the cafe/bar feels a bit cramped when it's a full house!

I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for future productions here, it was absolutely worth the journey from Manchester!

Finally thanks to Mr. Scott for coming out to chat with fans afterwards - a great end to a wonderful night.

User

Mary Stuart - Masterful storytelling again from Robert Icke. Really amazing actors. Congrats to the whole team for this wonderful show! A must-see play.

Summer and Smoke - Powerful! A strong play with so many layers. Such great actors. A play you want to see again.

Almeida is a rare pearl. A ground-breaking cool theatre in Islington, with its nice café and staff. I highly recommend this theatre.

User

Lovely venue - theatre and bar. Easy to find and only 10 minutes walk from Highbury and Islington tube.

Seats not too bad for a play of 2.5 hours.

User

Last night I experienced one of the greatest pieces of theatre I have ever witnessed in a lifetime of theatre-going. This thrilling new adaptation of Schiller's Mary Stuart was intense and gripping from the moment the coin was spun to decide which actor would play Mary and Elizabeth.

To watch Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams at the height of their powers in those glorious roles was something I'll never forget.

The Almeida is a unique space.. intimate and epic at the same time. A great venue, with a delightful front of house too. A truly great evening!

User

I wish everyone were able to have the opportunity to visit this wonderful little theatre. The Almeida does grown-up, thought-provoking work with ease, bringing the best of classical and new work together. I would also maintain that it is one of the most welcoming theatres in London for young people. I recently saw 'Summer and Smoke' as part of the free festival for under 25s; it was such a joy to see the theatre filled with the vibrant energy of youth. This is how you do theatre!

User

I was so lucky to get a return ticket to see Hamlet with Andrew Scott. It was an amazing production, fantastic set and brilliant performance from Mr Scott and all the cast. I've seen a lot of Hamlets going back over the years; David Warner, Ian Mckellan, Daniel Day Lewis, Simon Russell Beale, Kenneth Branagh, Ben Wishaw, Rory Kinnear, Benedict Cumberbatch to name but a few and this Hamlet was up there with them.

User

I heard so much about Almeida Theatre and it was my first time this week - I went to see Hamlet with Andrew Scott. It was amazing production- so difficult to breathe new life into something that has been done so many times, and Almeida managed to do that. Absolutely loved it, Andrew Scott was amazing as well as everyone else in the cast (very very strong cast!). I probably would name those who played Polonius, Laertes, Ophelia, the queen and Gildenstern in particular. Oh, and the ghost!. And overall the venue and atmosphere were lovely.

User

I have come to see Hamlet on Wednesday. The production was great. Really. I'm a big fan of Andrew Scott and seeing him playing Hamlet was one of the best things I witnessed in my life. I had already seen several productions of Hamlet and this one is my favourite, by far. The whole cast was great, the performance was powerful, breath-taking and genuine. I loved it so much ! It made me more familiar with Jessica Brown Findlay's work as well, and it was a very good surprise.

Actually, I loved everything about this production.

As for the Almeida Theatre in general, I found the staff very nice, kind and welcoming. As I'm French, I had a lot of questions and they were all answered. I spent pretty much the whole day there because I attended the first performance of the day and I wanted to meet Andrew Scott and the rest of the cast after the second one, so I basically spent the day at the theatre and it was great.

The café is very good, you can eat good food at cheap prices, there is free breakfast in the morning where you can have a delicious cup of tea, and there are activities related to the plays.

I really enjoyed spending time there, and I'm already trying to find a way to go back and see Hamlet again, and if I can't, I will come back in the future to see another play.

Furthermore, it gave me the opportunity to meet Andrew Scott, which was really great, I'm so happy about this !

Thank you for this experience, Almeida Theatre !

User

I couldn't fault the production, I loved its interpretation, its style and the passion of the cast. I’ve seen Hamlet many times before but this version made me rethink so many elements.

There are good actors, there are those at the top of their craft and then, then, there are those who don't act they breathe it. It is intrinsic. That's Andrew Scott’s Hamlet for me.

I have heard 'to be or not to be’ so many times, often wonderfully delivered, but I felt this one. I spent so much of the play with full on goosebumps and adrenaline racing. I felt the play as much as saw it all.

My only regret is that I hadn't known it would be 4 hours when I booked my train tickets and so I had to cut and run as soon as it ended and I couldn't give the standing ovation I longed to. And there would have been whooping, lots and lots of loud whooping.

User

Hamlet was sensational. The production was very slick and effortlessly moved so cohesively that it felt that the set was responding to the events as they unfolded within the play. Incredible performances given by all and delivered with such candid, conversational matter-of-fact-ness that no matter the diversity or familiarity of the audience, all were truly able to follow Shakespeare's genius. An introspective and poignant production. Will definitely be seeing again.

Genuine and friendly staff made the whole experience of seeing a play at the Almeida so uniquely personal. It's size gives a great charm and intimacy that makes you feel more connected to the world of the play. The seats are very comfortable and spacious. Excellent facilities. Slightly pricey on the bar but there's a Sainsbury's Local a five minute walk from the theatre for a £3 meal deal. An unforgettable night.

User

Great theatre. Very well priced for the quality of actors you get and production value.

Better than the west end rip off shows.

Always see everything they do. Even if it's not to my taste you can always appreciate the level of thought and passion.

User

First visit. Beautiful theatre. Hamlet was astonishingly good. Andrew Scott's portrayal was just incredible. It was as if he was just finding these 400 year old words to express himself, for the very first time. Set and concept excellent. Some interesting non-purist tweaks to the text including a brand new scene between Horatio and Gertrude. I loved it - venue and production.

User

First visit to the Almeida - saw the matinee of Hamlet yesterday with my son. Loved the theatre, the intimacy and the production was fabulous. I usually like traditional Shakespeare, however this was so chic and so clever - the use of the monitors and the cast on the screen was brilliant. Have to mention Andrew Scott - his performance was so powerful - loved it and the way he spoke to the audience..

We were really lucky to see this production - thank you!
