Alpha Goalkeeping

Great training session last night despite the freezing conditions. The lads were keen and hats and jackets were soon off as we kept them moving & they warmed up with their handling and footwork routines. Main focus of the session was catching high crosses and then distributing the ball accurrately, which they were all doing superbly by the end of the night.

Many junior clubs often neglect the specialist training needs of their young goalkeepers and just have them joining in training sessions designed for the progression of their outfield team mates. Wigan Junior Latics FC have taken the lead this season by running specialist weekly GK training sessions for their u10-u14 goalkeepers. The sessions are specifically designed to develop the skills required by a modern young goalkeeper and to both enhance and progress their goalkeeping development in a testing, but enjoyable environment. The club are now reaping the benefit with several outstanding match-winning goalkeeping performances being reported over the past few weeks. Well done lads.

Some good work from the lads tonight. We worked on 1v1 situations, positioning when dealing with crosses and also distribution. Lots of effort put in and came away with smiley face.. Job done 👍 See you all next week.

Great session tonight and a good turnout from the boys. We covered various techniques including diving, scoop and collapsed saves. We also worked heavily on footwork and spoke about the importance of keeping possession which the boys did extremely well. All the lads worked tirelessly and came away with smiles on faces. Wigan Junior Latics u10 blues, (year 5), play at a very high standard in the Warrington league (Top division) and are looking for an additional outfield player capable of playing at this level (pre-academy) to complete our team. Goalkeeper training for Wigan Junior latics u10, 11 & 12 goalkeepers will be on the 4G at Abraham Guest tonight 6.15-7pm.

Goalkeeper training continues tomorrow for the Wigan Junior Latics u10, u11 & u12 keepers. We will be working on positional play and getting in the right position to save a shot - focus will again be on getting into line & down the line. This will be an intensive session involving the use of the crazy catch equipment currently being used by the professional clubs.
