Alquemie Perfume

ALQUEMIE (Old French): A philosophy and science that sought to find a way of turning base metals into gold, a universal cure and the "elixir of life". What I love about my perfume journey is that I didn't seek it out. The Goddess Perfume came to me, unexpectedly, beckoned with a scented finger — and I followed. And that is how it has been since — flying along clutching onto her petticoats, always a sense of serendipity, a magic carpet journey and the continuing wonder at how just one drop of fragrance /essential oil can create that magical transformation. True alchemy! And what goes into that alchemical process? Knowledge and experience, certainly. But I believe that no amount of knowledge will avail a perfumer unless she has the required sensitive "nose" and the confidence to trust, listen and follow her "nose", her senses and her intuition. My past professional life has been grounded in therapy work; a different kind of alchemy – helping to transform difficult feelings and experiences into the "gold" of resolution and understanding. And included within that background is many years of working with essential oils and aromatherapy to assist in deep relaxation and healing. My childhood in the Fiji Islands was a continuous assault on the senses: the deep sweet scent of the stephanotis flower, the unforgettable tang of coconut matting, the distinctive odour of mangrove swamps and the amalgam of smells from the local market — gorgeous and shocking; the smell of ships' engines and tropical vegetation — freshly grated coconut and a sun-ripe mango dripping with juice. Life in the Tropics for me always seemed touched with glamour, as were the perfumes, film stars, songs, music, dances of that era. All these experiences have influenced the perfumes that I create. ALQUEMIE perfumes are for the discerning woman (and man) who appreciate a perfume with depth, sophistication, complexity and elegance. And also, perhaps, that touch of vintage.
