Amal Description
A Said Foundation Programme.
At Amal we believe that culture and the arts broaden horizons and forge common ground within and between communities.
Amal provides opportunities for people in Britain, regardless of their faith or beliefs, to come together and explore the rich diversity of Muslim cultures and arts including storytelling, visual arts, theatre, poetry, music, dance and film.
Amal champions imagination and the values of compassion, conviviality and social justice.
Amal facilitates experiences, encounters and discoveries that help to address the complex and critical issues facing our communities today in an inclusive atmosphere of creative expression and mutual respect. Through its varied activities, it hopes to achieve a deeper and broader understanding of Muslim cultures, thereby adding to the strength and vitality of contemporary British society.
Amal began its work as a Programming Fund making grants in support of Muslim Cultural production over a pilot phase of around one year.

It's here! The brilliant response piece by Birmingham-based artist @Mohammed Ali Aerosol to the story of Shakespeare's Othello - created as part of our partnership with English Touring Theatre on #TheOthelloProject
In the artist's words:
"Out of all Shakespeare's work this is my favourite, so I went all out on this. Using a location I've been meaning to use for a while in inner-city Sparkbrook Birmingham, just half an hour from Shakespeare's birthplace. I created a visual ar...ts response, producing this short film in a run-down urban setting with actors, hazer machines, theatrical lighting and beautiful cinematography from No More Blue Mondays.
The narrative may only be understood by those who know the story of Othello, but I am sure others will take something from it. I will withhold from sharing the narrative of this piece I put together and let the audience take what they can from it."
