"From booking to actually going to Namibia, the entire experience was amazing and we couldn’t have done it without the support from Gemma and Amanzi travel who ensured that they we were prepared and comfortable for the trip. It’s been two of the best weeks of my life and I can’t wait to go again, hopefully for longer!" Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary - Ciara, UK, aged 18 http://ow.ly/eUXU30lJsoY

Thank you for your feedback Azim, we are so glad you enjoyed your time on the Victoria Falls Lion Conservation Project and hope you will travel with us again in the future.
Thank you so much for providing me with an opportunity to participate in the Lion Conservation project in Victoria Falls! I will never forget the numerous early morning walks I had with the lions and being able to get up close with them during their time outside of their enclosure. I particularly enjoyed u...sing my creativity and teamwork skills in helping to construct toys for the lions by using only natural materials found in the local environment in order to provide them with a path towards behavioral enrichment. I also enjoyed partaking in the various research activities taking place within Zambezi National Park such as game counts and large predator occupancy surveys. These research projects were extremely interesting and offered a nice change of pace from my daily lion walks. I also appreciated being able to go into the local community and interact with the local population once per week by engaging in conservation education efforts in schools. During the weekends there were so many recreational and leisure opportunities available in Victoria Falls and surrounding places that it was sometimes hard to decide which ones to do. Plus I had the opportunity to talk and plan with the other volunteers that were also staying in the same lodge about the weekend activities we could potentially join together. Overall I would rate this project five stars and would highly recommend this to anyone who has an interest in wildlife and an adventurous spirit!

"I spent a month at the Makalali reserve and it was truly a life-changing experience. I missed out on the whole back-packing thing when I was younger, so although have travelled a lot in my twenties, this was actually my first lengthy solo trip so was feeling a bit apprehensive! I needn't have been as everything was organised so well in terms of transfers, logistics and communication - it was super easy and felt very safe at all times. If it's being immersed in the wild, obse...rving incredible animals (really up close sometimes!) and learning a tonne at the same time then you'll love this place. The knowledge I now have about all the animals, insects, trees, rocks, environment and conservation issues is far greater than I ever expected. And everyone I met there was awesome - huge range of ages and nationalities which I think makes it even better. I was hanging out with gap year types as well as people who were living their dream in their retirement (and all ages in between which is where I fell). You get to know people so well as you're all living, cooking, cleaning together each day - as well as hours bumping around together in the 4x4s! Absolutely loved it and will definitely go back one day. My biggest recommendation? Definitely go to Bush Camp! I was so undecided before I went whether I'd want to go full blown 'no electricity/hot water/buildings' wild but I loved it. Where else can you have an outdoor shower looking out on pure wilderness with an elephant sauntering past?! Spent my last 2 weeks there but would have done the full month. Thank you Gemma for all your help!" Eleanor, UK, aged 29 - http://ow.ly/k3Y630kyryt

An update on Murwi the beautiful new addition to Imire Rhino and Elephant Sanctuary! Murwi, who is an anti-poaching dog, is progressing amazingly well. She is a very quick learner and is now tracking up to 3.7km. We are all in complete awe of what this incredible animal is capable of. The anti-poaching team have been in intensive training with world renowned anti poaching operators in the Save Valley Conservancy over the last few weeks in order to ensure that they are up to speed and fighting fit at all times, capable of shouldering the huge responsibility of protecting the wildlife and rhino on Imire. The Namibia Rural Lifeline Clinic offers essential medical care to the local bushman community at no cost. Volunteers help the Doctor and Nurse at the clinic throughout the year. Recently a 5-week-old baby boy, admitted with fever and malnutrition, was amongst those seeking the solace the clinic offers. His vulnerable state demands continued vigilance, with doting clinic staff providing the critical care.
The team further extends its vital services during outreach sessions f...or those people residing in remote locations who struggle to access the clinic.

Hoedspruit Endangered Wildlife Centre - Serval Release
During March 2017, three serval cats that were confiscated by Nature Conservation were brought to the Centre to be raised. The plan with the cats was always to release them back into the wild.
Life, unfortunately, had other plans and of the three servals, one did not survive. The two brothers, however, have been doing marvellously. They have been growing big and strong!
... The plan to release them onto the Kapama reserve on which Camp Jabulani is located, was decided upon towards the end of last year.
The servals were moved into a holding enclosure on 29 January, in order for them to grow accustomed to their surroundings. Once settled, Camp Jabulani’s manager Chantel was responsible for looking after them.
Fast forward to 19 February 2018: It was time to open the doors of the enclosure and let them out onto the reserve. Everyone was astounded and happy when seeing the two head into the bush.
They were followed and watched for about half an hour to see how they would react to the natural surroundings and it is safe to say that they were perfectly at home.
The centre will continue to monitor them and ensure they are doing well in the wild. What a fantastic success story with the Servals back in the Wild!
