Amarna House Care Home offers luxury residential and dementia care in the heart of York. The home is managed by leading care provider Avery Healthcare.
At Avery, we always uphold and respect the decisions made by our residents. We make sure to have signed permission forms for all Avery residents pictured on our social media platforms. We do not upload any photographs of residents who do not wish to be pictured on our social media.
Reviews
The ladies have been busy this afternoon. Making some old favourites Jam tarts and lemon curd tarts. We even managed some chocolate croissants too. The tarts went down a treat after tea.
The gift of love comes in many forms, family, neighbours, our community and of course our friends. Here is Audrey with her very special friend Tracey just before they headed out for the afternoon. ❤❤
Happy Valentines Day! George and Rosemary are our valentine couple! I asked George how long they had been married and George answered '96 years I think...' to which Rosemary replied 'it certainly feels like it!'
Yesterday we had Maggie from Musical Moments putting our residents through their paces on Laurel Unit with a combination of singing, dancing and gentle armchair exercises. Although judging by the pictures it looks as though Carers Shellie and Natasha also had a good workout!
This afternoon we had a visit from musicians from Live Music Now who entertained our residents with all sorts of songs, from Tom Jones to Hank Williams, percussion was provided by the audience as was alot of singing! Gwen said she had lost her voice due to singing and Pat proclaimed the afternoon had been perfect! Thank you to our friends at Attend for supporting these sessions
A big part of a sense of wellbeing is being able to connect with nature, with this in mind Rispah and Jen decided to watch our garden squirrels this afternoon! We tempted them in with monkey nuts but we are pretty sure we only had the same squirrel back and forth, eating one then burying the other! We also spotted magpies, crows and a few blue tits keeping a close eye on the nuts!
The Amarna ladies were out checking out the great ice trail in York centre today. What great fun we had. We even managed a costa coffee too Thank you to Charlotte for joining us on one of our many trips.

Another wonderful visit from Joe's Owl Encounters & Exotic Mobile Zoo. Residents met all manner of birds from cuckaburra to Falcons. Una said she felt really emotional seeing such beautiful birds up close. Thank you once again Joe 🦉🦅
We had a lovely afternoon strolling round York Minster this afternoon and we were all reminded,as Rosemary said, how lucky we are to live in our beautiful city!
We were honoured to have one of our residents, Ian, read Address To The Haggis at our Burns Night Celebration. He said he felt very emotional and a little bit homesick for his country. We had made our dining room as Scottish as we could with fine Scottish fayre, Scotch Whiskey, Irn Bru and of course our Haggis,taking centre stage!
We had a lovely afternoon being entertained by Claire Louise. She sang favourites from the 1930s right up to the 1960s, definitely something for everyone. Lilian loved it as you can see in our picture, Thank you so much Claire!
We are delighted to announce that Amarna has a new kid on the block! Please meet beautiful Poppy! She suprised her Mum and Dad by arriving a little bit early! Mum Zoe, Dad Mikey and baby Poppy are doing splendidly and are all at home beginning their new life as a family of three! Congratulations from everyone at Amarna xx❤❤❤

A beautiful hair do requires a beautiful tiara always! Marjorie will always be a queen in our eyes!
Another few busy days we have had. Garden centre to get some spring plants with the lovely Ann and Eva. Out and about walking with Ann, Maureen and Anne. Baking rice crispy cakes yesterday with our top bakers Audrey, Ann,Helen and Margaret. We baked enough for the whole of Amarna they were scrumptious.
