What a delightful find! Rushed for time and starving we popped in for a quick bite and were thrilled with everything from the service to the food and wine. When we come back to York, we’re coming back here!

We have eaten at the Fossgate location several times before and always loved it so booked again for my wife’s birthday. So glad we did, the service and food was excellent from start to finish and I want to pay special thanks to Flavia who is a shining example of great customer service. I had the Chorizo in balsamic vinegar which is my favourite and the gambas (prawns) in tempura batter, my wife the smoked haddock and the belly pork and then we shared the beef with chili all of them delicious. I love that the kitchen is open so you can see the chefs cooking they all looked so professional. A great choice of desserts, so much so that we opted for the sharing platter which gave a little taste of everything a great decision. Can’t recommend this place enough but make sure you book. We will be back and I can’t wait - Thank you

We had a really enjoyable meal here last night. The food was yummy, the atmosphere of the restaurant was great and the service was very good.

We came here with friends who had been previously and had raved about it. We were early to our table and as it was before 5, this wasn't a problem. Seated and drinks order taken quickly, we were left to select a wide range of dishes to satisfy our appetite. We started with garlic and tomato bread and mixed meats/fish on bread. And followed this with a range of dishes including smoked haddock, tempura battered prawns, pork belly with pineapple, meatballs, a type of Scots egg, paella, pork cheek to name a few! We ordered a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it, accompanied by water, soft drinks wine and sangria! Too stuffed for a dessert, we opted for the sharing platter between 4 giving us a little taste of something sweet...absolutely delicious! My husband even complimented them on the Food...something that he almost never does, so much so that he even said we would be back soon!! And he claimed he wasn't keen on tapas before we came here! A convert!

We arrived having not booked and was given a table straight away.

We ordered drinks and looked through the menu which had some very appealing tapas dishes on it.

While my girlfriend went to the ladies I asked the gentleman behind the bar if he would kindly present an engagement ring with our main course so I could propose to her.

He gladly said yes of course.

The night was very special for us and the staff made sure we had a night to remember.

So I'd like to say a huge thank you to all the members at AMBIENTE and we can't wait to visit them again soon.

Really friendly and helpful staff and knowledgeable about telling me about the sherry flights loved it. Great start to the day of an relaxing time around York 😁

Not eaten here for a while but enjoyed a fantastic meal washed down with a lovely bottle of wine sat in great surroundings. Service was excellent being waited on by a very charming waitress who served up one of the best Latte's I've ever tasted. �

My daughter and i visited to celebrate her birthday. We were blessed with an empty restaurant which given it was 2.30 on a Wednesday afternoon wasn't wholly surprising. However good music, attentive staff and excellent food made for a thoroughly enjoyable meal. We over ordered for choice and thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. The stuffed dates for starters were utterly delicious, but everything was piping hot and very tasty. Estrella on draught just made the whole experience so much better. We have been in an evening previously when it was busier. The food and service on that occasion, was excellent too ...

Me and the wife called on Saturday evening we had booked in advance good thing we had as it was very full , had the bread and deep fried feta to start the bread was moist and very tasty, the feta was amazing , mains were paella meat balls , scotch egg , chick pea balls , and a few other dishes all were top notch very tasty absolutely loved it and the staff were very friendly and attentive without been in your face too much



We will definitely be back again

Me and my wife dined at the Fossgate restaurant. At 16+ stone I feel I'm qualified to say that the food is without doubt the best iv ever had. The service was brilliant and the restaurant itself has a great atmosphere.

Liked the new menu..enjoyed a number of tapas choices between us....but I missed the paella. Lovely staff, excellent service and great food and wine.

Came here for a birthday dinner after Google recommended it. Waitress was lovely and very helpful in persuading us to try a few new things! The food was ridiculously good, everything was packed with flavour and for tapas, the portions were big. Would recommend the prawns especially, we couldn't get enough of them! A little on the pricier side, but definitely worth it for a special occasion.

Ate here today and absolutely loved it. The service was fantastic, friendly and very quick to take orders and serve food. The menu has lots of choice, and we even got a couple of freebies due to the kitchen cooking the wrong order- so instead of wasting it or it sitting under a bulb they gave us it for free! We found the price really competitive, and we will definitely return on our next visit to York.

Absolutely loved it. Great service, fabulous food, lovely wine. What's not to like? I had the lamb croquet, prawns in garlic and beetroot salad, although would have liked a bit more besides just beetroot, but was very tasty.

The atmosphere was relaxed and upstairs the little lights gave it a good vibe. The waiting staff were friendly and informative with good knowledge of the dishes. The good was very tasty and authentic. Definitely love to go back when next in York:)

Decided to go for a quick bite with a friend I enjoyed my veg fideua and salad, customer service was great, however I got food poisoning so I can't rate this place higher than 3 and not sure I'll ever come back.

What have you done to the menu? We would normally get 6 small tapas and share but no some of our favourites are gone, tapas with no paella? Larger plates. We like to sit near the window, the new style larger plates struggled to fit on the shelf.



We shared the fish stew, lovely sauce, nice fish, 1 prawn ! Beef ragu sounded nice but didn’t live up to expectations.

Potato and blue cheese salad with one piece of blue cheese. The chorizo (3 small pieces) with chick peas £7..



The atmosphere is the same, excellent. As we’re the staff, very helpful and offered tasters of both wine and sherry to choose.



If it’s not broken don’t fix it! You had an excellent menu and we like probably many others enjoyed returning.



Unfortunately after spending £60 tonight we were disappointed and now left wondering, were do we get the same quality tapas and experience that we had come to enjoy in York.
