Amelia Bayes Counselling And Psychotherapy Description

Counselling and psychotherapy can provide a safe, confidential, supportive space for you to bring any problems you are having and explore difficult thoughts and feelings. You might seek counselling and psychotherapy because you are struggling to cope, feeling dissatisfied with your life, having problems with relationships, trying to process a loss or a change, or finding it difficult to make a big decision. You might want to make sense of things that have happened in the past, think about your future or just get some extra support to help you through a tough time.

I offer short or long term counselling and psychotherapy face to face in Brighton & Hove. I work integratively, which means that I draw on a variety of different therapeutic models, including person-centred therapy, psychodynamic and attachment theory, mindfulness, and cognitive behavourial therapy (CBT), as well as considering how the social world impacts on each of us. My approach sees each client as an individual with different therapeutic needs, rather than one size of therapy fitting all, so I work flexibly but with a focus on the relationship between therapist and client and how we can work collaboratively.

I believe that a good relationship between therapist and client has a big impact on the effectiveness of therapy, so I offer a free initial consultation to see if working together feels right for both of us. This gives you a chance to find out more about how I work and whether I am the right fit for you, and me a chance to get a sense of what you are looking for from counselling and whether I can support you with that, or whether another type of service might be more appropriate for you right now.

I have experience working therapeutically with clients in a range of settings including in schools, colleges and in the community, and with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, disordered eating, relationship difficulties, and problems at work or in education. As well as seeing individuals for private counselling and psychotherapy, I work at an NHS personality disorder service and for a charity providing emotional support to young people.

I also have particular experience working with issues around gender and sexuality, with LGBTQ and gender diverse clients, and with clients who practice non-monogamy, polyamory, BDSM, and other non-traditional relationships.
