Metric Cruiser UK seeds were sown in 2001 by petrolhead Roger Raggett when he emigrated to SW Florida after selling his successful UK business AutoStyle Car Mats.

He became a licensed Florida specialist dealer, buying and selling Iconic American Muscle cars, Motorcycles and Boats within the USA and also exporting Worldwide.

Roger’s pivotal moment came when he moved into a new gated community and most my new nehibours had motorcycles and with Florida State recently changing the motorcycle helmet law it was possible to ride sans restrictive helmet in a fantastic warm climate without the need to dress up in leathers, freedom at its highest degree and completely the opposite riding from the UK.
After attending a couple of local bike nights and a visit to bike week Daytona in 2005 I noticed the iconic Honda Rune and that was it “My name went on the list and I received my Blue model with chrome pack in November that year, just in time to enjoy the beautiful Florida Winter while the rest of the States and the UK were freezing and damp! ”

Although the Rune was a great barhopped and a fantastic machine it was not comfortable for my wife to join me on longer rides and so I went through a bunch of bikes until I found a used low mileage 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad for a great price fully loaded with extra chrome.

Overnight there were 2 motorcycles and 2 cars in the garage my re introduction to bikes was rekindled after 30 years and I started to really get into the US bike scene which at that time little did I know was the peak of the cruiser boom with every manufacturer trying to outdo the other and take market share away from the well established leader Harley-Davidson.

The Japanese manufactures certainly moved the market along with strong launches of new models seemingly every 3 months.

The joy of riding a beautifully engineered large capacity torque laden V Twin flat 6 or V4 with shaft drive, water cooling and air suspension leaves a lasting impression and some memorable and enjoyable rides were taken mainly in Florida but also with friends in Massachucetts exploring the areas.

On summer trips back to the UK I noticed a lot more interest in motorcycling but not many American style cruisers, this lead me to believe that potentially the bikes I knew so well in the States would be appreciated by a select audience over here. to test the market I hand picked and imported a couple of models never introduced to the UK and advertised them, within a week they were sold with a lot of interest and back up calls taken.

I decided to put the knowledge, experience, contacts in the States to good use and my import /export set up that I successfully used the previous decade to import American cars and parts to good us and turn my hobby into a personalized small business.
