Employees on our Severn Trent Water Account have been raising money for their employee nominated charity Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. From Halloween fancy dress to tasty treats the team stepped up to the challenge in their first fundraiser event for the charity. The account has future fundraiser days and social events planned and will be working with the charity to organise Community Involvement Days next year. Earlier this month employees nominated local charities which they wished to support and then the account voted for their favourite. Staffordshire Wildlife Trust’s aim of protecting and enhancing the wildlife and wild places of Staffordshire ties in with Amey’s goal of helping to create better places to live, work and travel.
We’re excited to have partnered with Girlguiding to help get young girls into #STEM careers. We’ve launched an Engineering badge to inspire the next generation of female engineers. Our network of 138 Mental Health Ambassadors and 73 Mental Health First Aiders play a key role in raising awareness and promoting positive mental health. It’s the 5th anniversary of #bantheboxuk and we’re one of more than 110 employers creating a fair chance for ex-offenders to gain jobs - A criminal record tick box on job application forms never tells the full story and puts talented people off applying. Read Ian Deninson, Group HR Director, thoughts on why working with ex-offenders is not a tick the box exercise: @Business in the Community http://ow.ly/FY7H30mhssc

Whilst working on a scheme within a village in Rutland, a member of our Severn Trent Team from Heartlands witnessed a road accident caused due to bad weather conditions and rushed straight to the scene to assist. The customer was so moved by his actions and assistance, that a letter of commendation was sent in to Severn Trent and included the statement 'An employee of Amey of whom to be proud'. We are certainly very proud of our team and awarded Josh Williams an a*Award!
Today we launch our #Plastic Challenge in our head office in Oxford, with the aim to eliminate #SingleUsePlastic and to increase recycling as we found that 66% of rubbish was currently going in the wrong bin! This figure is far too high and will be reduced by the end of the 2-month challenge! #Recycle
On Sunday, Transport for Wales Rail Services commenced operation of the Wales and Borders service. As part of the official launch event, we were delighted to host a STEM workshop for local schoolchildren from Pontypridd to inspire the next generation of engineers.
