About Ancestry Talks

AboutI pioneered research into African Caribbean genealogy during the 1990s. I traced my family history from London, back 6 generations, to ancestors captured of the West African coast and enslaved on a sugar plantation in Jamaica. I gained national recognition for my work when my acclaimed historical novel Ancestors (based on the true story of the author's African ancestors) was published in 2002. I appeared on Who Do You Think You Are? (Moira Stuart) as the expert in African Caribbean genealogy. My second book A Tree Without Roots is the seminal guide to tracing African, British and Asian Caribbean ancestry. Value PropositionI help people to share cultural identity and family history to foster an appreciation of one another. I provide a vehicle for arts, culture and health & Wellbeing agencies to reach African Caribbean communities. I help corporate organisations use conversations about ancestry to enable employees to work successfully across cultures and bridge cultural gaps. I provide resources and knowledge about Africa Caribbean Ancestry to equip people for a multicultural Britain and global economy. Ancestry Talks seeks to advance through speaking engagements and research the knowledge and understanding of what it means to be African Caribbean. My ancestry workshop activities explore family trees to stimulate conversations and to increase cultural awareness and strengthen working relationships. Workshops provide staff networks with an opportunity to create a safe space for employees' to learn about each other's backgrounds and what has been vital in shaping their lives. This allows employees to learn new things about each other that otherwise might not come up, and the act of being open is a great way to form bonds, increase empathy and improve relationships.
