Not been in since its been done up. Came in lastnight for tea and wow... the food was amaaaazing. Quick service and a friendly, cosy atmosphere. Deffinatly be coming more often �

I held my sisters surprise baby shower here in the function room on Saturday. It was brilliant!The room was clean and ready for us to decorate at a time we had arranged. We all ordered off the main menu and even with a big party all the food arrived at the same time, it was delicious. The staff were helpful and ensured the event went smoothly, would definitely recommend and will be back soon, thank you, an amazing time was had by us all! �

I have eaten here quite a bit since Ember Inns took over. The pub has been open for quite some years but never quite got it right. I feel now, that things have changed and feel happy having this as my local. Good to just call in for a drink as well as eating here. Bar staff and manager are friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend

Came to visit you from Chester yesterday to see my mum have to say I've not been there for the past 15 years and the food was beautiful today staff were very friendly sorry if we were roudy we were the big table and you took the family photo will definitely be coming again.�

Although we had problems with our starters and one of our main courses I have to say the staff were absolutely brilliant. Martyn and Louise couldn't do enough to help us. Thank you guys on what was an extremely busy day

A nice place to have a meal friendly service having my 80th birthday party there in November

The Ancient Oak is very close to where we live. We are therefore pleased to find that the service here is consistently good, time after time when we visit for food and drinks. The great sunny weather recently has allowed us to use the beer garden on a number of occasions, seating for plenty!

We always have service with a smile, however would appreciate some more flexible incentives and offers on the drinks, which seem to be predominantly on a Monday night.

Had tea here tonight after a local event. We ordered one meat meal, one fish, one veggie and one vegan- all were enjoyed! Thank you �

Came on a Sunday evening. It was pretty busy, but the staff didn't seem stressed which made for a nice atmosphere. The food took a fair while to get to the table but tasted incredible. The only issue we had was two of the steaks. Mix up with how they were cooked. We ordered one rare to medium and the other rare, the one we wanted rare came medium and the other rare. Other than that, the service was brilliant and other than the mix up the good was really nice and the staff brilliant. look forward to coming back.

Nice food but a lot more expensive than it used to be. Food deals are great for families with children, that has been replaced now with a starter and main/main and dessert meal. They had run out of some items on that menu so we had to have items on the standard menu, this made the meal menu invalid and we had to pay full price. Worked out very expensive for two adults and three children, with drinks. Not sure the food was tasty enough for us to go again

Came in tonight for a meal and upon ordering food I was told there was a 30 minute wait which isn't a problem, the restaurant was full with a few big tables in so it's understandable. Having said this there was one waitress that was rushed of her feet and a waiter occasionally helping. Because of this when we had finished our starter it sat on the table for 15 minutes before being cleared and we then had to wait a further 20 minutes for the mains to arrive, the lovely waitress did apologise and got us some drinks but I then had to send both meals back as the mashed potato was like rubber and I knew this without even having to touch it. We then had another wait for our food to come back which when it did the mash looked better but the rubber bits where underneath. The only reason I haven't rated it a 1* is because the staff were doing all they could.. as a suggestion maybe get more staff in during busy periods.

Went a month ago and the food was good and there was a nice open log fire. Went again last night had the same meal which this time was only just edible! No log fire this time on a very cold evening so kept our coats on to keep warm!! Very disappointed. Is this pub's standards diminishing already?

Nice resturant but was disappointed with the beef it was really tough and grissly. Also we had young children with us and felt like they didn't cater for them eg no children's cutlery and children's starter was was celery and cus cus. Although some children may like this mine didn't thought they would get carrot sticks and cucumber. I feel these points need looking at then it would be a nice resturant with good food and child friendly.

Brought my mum for Mother's Day. There were 5 of us altogether. We ordered 2 kids meals and 3 roast dinners. The kids meals came with mash which was awful to look at and by all accounts from the kids, awful to eat too. The roast dinners were equally awful and we were all left dissapointed and very hungry afterwards. On the plus side the staff were very nice and helpful. Would we come back again?? Probably not!!

Went in yesterday had the half chicken with garlic & parsley sauce never again not been off the toilet since plus had to lose days pay .

NASTY FOOD

First time we have eaten there for a long time and it will be a long time before we do so again. Surly bar staff who got the drinks wrong but told my husband he hadn’t asked for the drink he has been drinking for the last 40 years! The mushroom starter arrived without the salad and when this was pointed out it was dismissed with the comment “it’s just a bit of parsley sprinkled on it” when it clearly says salad on the menu! The mushrooms were dry and pretty unappealing. My Nachos were ok-ish, not much salsa and guacamole and the cheese wasn’t melted. The main courses were not much better, the gammon was ok but a big slab of cold Pineapple that had barely grazed the grill and an over cooked egg didn’t do much for my appetite. No sauces were offered leaving my husband to go off in search of some mustard. My husband had a burger which he described as pretty grim and not as good as MacDonalds. Sorry Ancient Oak but you are not up to the standard we expect from an Ember Inn and we will stick to The Black Bull in future.
