About Andrew'S Fitness

I am the oldest of three sons. My younger brother Michael had Downs syndrome and a hole in his heart. In December 2004, Michael passed away at the age of 23. In 2017, I decided to run my first 10k. One local newspaper wrote an article about my plans (see here). I trained for over a year and on 18th June 2017 I completed the race in 73 minutes. In the beginning of 2018 I was diagnosed with depression. I had to take a good look at my life and identify what parts of my life I wasn't happy with and change them. It was during this process I realised that running was something I enjoyed, but hadn't been out for 6 months. Running is a way for me to not only stay healthier, but to release stress that had been building up. I decided to get back into running and sign up for the Leeds Half Marathon on 13th May 2018. This would be a challenge having never ran 13 miles (21 kms). This was going to be a test, so what better way to jump into it head first. I started going back to the gym, running outside and I joined Pudsey Pacers running club. To keep Michael's memory alive, I have decided to raise money for Martin House Hospice. Michael stayed at Martin House on a number of occassions for respite care. Martin House Hospice is a charity which provides free family based support for children and young adults with life shortening conditions. If you would like to support this cause, then any donations would be greatly appreciated. It feels only right to try to give back in some small way and to keep Michael's memory alive. Click here to donate or donate using your phone by texting MICW81 then the amount you would like to donate to 70070.
