This will be a chat about the history of the injury/ condition that you have come to see me. Discussing mechanism of the injury and symptoms that you experience with your injury. ______________ 2️⃣ Physical Assessment This will include; Range of Movement testing/ Strength testing/ Special tests/ Functional tests/ These are all done with different soft tissues being tests such as muscle, ligament, tendons, meniscus and cartilage. _______________ 3️⃣Treatment Plan The treatment will be based upon the physical assessment as this will hopefully determine what tissue you have injury and therefore lead into how to strength, repair and aid the recovery of your injury. Exercise and Mental Health _____________________ Over the last 2 weeks I have been working with an 84year old client with dementia and has been unable to walk and limited to only his bed and chair. I’ve spent 30min a day with him for 2 weeks and today he finally managed to stand and into a wheelchair ! This in itself is a massive achievement. ... Do you need a Sports Therapist OR a Physiotherapist ?? ___________________________ Sports therapist always get refer to as ‘physio’ just because it’s easy to say but the differences between the 2 aren’t that different. Sports Therapy, according to ‘The society of sports therapists’ (governing body), is ‘concerned with the prevention, rehabilitation and treatment of the patient back to optimal occupational and/ or sports specific fitness’. Physiotherapy, according to the c...hartered society of physiotherapists, ‘is a rehabilitation profession that promotes improvement in quality of life through diagnosis, examination and treatment’. Very similar is you ask me! ___________________________ Sports therapy applies a lot of similar skills and techniques that you would find from a physiotherapist such as massage, exercises prescription, electro therapy, physical therapy and many more. What sets them apart? Physiotherapy is more ‘medical’ with use of a better word. Physiotherapist are trained to deal with the initial recovery of serious medical condition such as heart attack, strokes or some kind of neurological/ respiratory disease. Where as sports therapist are trained to deal with muscular-skeletal injuries, with that in mind, that doesn’t rule out sports therapist with working with more complex condition after the initial treatment. ___________________________ So if you have a dodgy shoulder or a bad knee whether it is sport related or lifestyle related maybe you should consider a sports therapist first.
