Reviews
Only just started using Angel Lane chippy the last two months. Having lived in penrith all my life have always used a different chippy but thought would give Angel Lane a go because of its reviews. Have been really impressed the large cod is without doubt the best piece of fish I've had from a chip shop. Well , that was until my visit today. Ordered two large cods on Saturday. Two enormous large cods were brought out of the fryer ready to serve and I thought "must be mine " (as that's what we've normally received) followed by two pieces which were probably about 30 to 40% smaller in size . The two large cods were given to the people in front while I was given the two smaller pieces!? Either the people in front of me were given the fish I'd paid for or either what they class as a large cod varies ridiculously! I'm 100% certain the assistant messed the order up. I should maybe have mentioned it but started questioning my judgement and wondered if I was just being greedy for not getting the big pieces! Either way we were short changed. Having a family of 6 and probably having a chippy once a fortnight at angel lanes prices it would probably work out at nearly a £1000 a year. If they pissed off one person like me once a week then you could see what an enormous impact it could have on a business. I hope they take the time to read their reviews and get their house in order! We'll give them another go but if you pay the most expensive prices in town you don't expect to get ripped off.
Friendly place tucked down quaint side st only 2 of us in diner when we visited meal good brisk takeaway trade
I had fish, chips & mushy peas, the fish was humongous the batter was lovely crisp but not to fatty the chips were lovely & the peas very tasty, never had a bad meal from here.
This has now got to be the best in Penrith, cod and haddock cooked well and tasty. The chips have been very good 9 times out of 10 with them being a little greasy once. Very busy so that is a good sign.
Visited Penrith during March 17, stumbled across this chip shop. I had stopped eating chips over recent years because they are such a disappointment; generally soggy and greasy, under or over cooked and leave me with indigestion and/or heartburn. The chips at Penny Lane were a refreshing change, they were crispy and hot and tasted really good. When we are having a day out we now travel to Penny Lane to round the day off with great chips. The staff were Also welcoming and friendly. Well worth a 120 mile round journey !
Disappointed. Have visited this establishment for several years. Arrived at 5.00pm today and told the resturaunt was closed despite people already being served upstairs. Staff not helpful. Won't visit again and have informed all my friends who will not use again either. Tough Angel lane your attitude leaves a lot to be desired.
Was a regular. Not now. Not ever. Scotland
Although the chips where nice and fresh ithink £2. For a regular portion is a bit on the steep side.
Award winning chippy. Go when it's busy, so you get it freshly cooked.
Best fish and chips in Penrith. Very nice and accommodating staff.
