Angel Of Youths

Angel of Youths works with young people aged 12-30 from disadvantaged and marginalised communities. The organisation operates with a person centred approach to develop social action projects around the young people's passions as well as providing a safe space and positive environment for young people to gather and share ideas, revise for their exams and receive individual and group mentoring and support. Our goal is to inspire the current generation to leave a legacy of positive change in their communities and localities, through creating the next generation of young leaders and increasing community cohesion, openness and creating positive opportunities for themselves and others. Angel of Youths seeks to challenge inequality in societies and promote sustainable, inclusive economic growth by giving young people the opportunity to identify and explore their dreams and address obstacles and barriers that may hinder them achieving these. We want to encourage youth and community-led change and innovation giving a voice to young people experiencing the effects of marginalisation and inequality in the provision of opportunity. We want young people to be active citizens in their communities and take ownership of issues which affect them by being involved in and creating social action projects that use the things they love to address the things they hate. We want young people to aspire to have a voice, economic freedom and a direction of their choosing and to have a positive influence on their local communities. We believe that by working with young people in this way and allowing them to develop skills in project planning and management as well as in the arts and public speaking, that the ripple effect of positive change and action will benefit their communities and the wider community of young people in Leeds. Our vision for youth support is one of inclusion and with a focus on the interests and skills of our young people, ensuring they create what is right for them, based on their own interests, rather than slotting into a predetermined system. We want to move away from a system of youth work which so often is tokenistic, patronising and rigid, with low expectations for young people due to a perception of them having ‘hard to reach' mentalities. We want to challenge this and foster creativity, dynamism and independence using collaborative and engaging methods that put young people at the centre of everything we do.
