Ania's yoga journey began over a decade ago and slowly started to weave its way through her life. With a background in ashtanga yoga, jivamukti yoga and vinyasa flow, Ania is devoted to sharing the practice and benefits of yoga with others. Constantly curious, she is always evolving her understanding of the body, breath and awareness as she draws from a number of styles and traditions. Ania is particularly inspired by the philosophy and practices of the Hatha lineage. She will take you through a dynamic physical practice, woven with philosophy and balanced off with a dose of lunar antidote.

Ania is a 200-hour certified teacher and registered with Yoga Alliance UK. Ania also organises and runs yoga workshops and events in London and beyond

Going upside down: why do we love head and handstands so much? and what about other inversions? . . Inversions are yoga poses where the heart is higher from the ground than the head (yes, Downward Facing Dog is an inversion). They can be both energising ⚡️ (forearm balances, headstand, handstand) and soothing (legs against the wall). .... . The benefits of being upside down are both physical: circulation, strengthening arms, legs, back and abdominal muscles; and psychological: we learn how to “fall and get back up again”. And once we finally “made it” upside down, it can be really liberating. Inventions change our perspective on the world both literally and symbolically. Going against the gravity teaches us how to break our fears or get out of old habits. It can be tricky but it’s possible! and the only way to “get there” is …practice, practice, practice (with me of course 😉 )

I DON’T MEDITATE. I don’t know how to meditate. Sounds familiar? Meditation is an essential part of the yoga practice, but so often omitted in the classes. Why? Being still and quiet is hard and more demanding that some of the advanced asanas. Meditation does not come easy, it may seem boring or pointless and it requires time. So why would you meditate ? . It is incredibly beneficial and important part of the balanced yoga practice. The long list of meditation benefits inclu...des #stress and #anxiety reduction, #chronic #pain relief and simply helping us to slow down in this overstimulating environment. . How? When we meditate, we draw our attention inward and observe what’s going on inside us, without judging is it bad or good. This is an exercise of the concentration. The practice which allows to stir attention away form, nervousness, worries or sadness, soothes the sensation of pain (because we learn how not to contract the body when we feel pain and therefore the sensation is smaller).
So you want to meditate ? If you are in London, I recommend guided meditation classes at the London Buddhist Centre in Bethel Green. If you can’t get to Bethnal Green, @yogaglo offers great programme with @jason_crandell which you can do online when - and where – ever is comfortable for you. And of course, you can try to meditate yourself :
HOW TO in 3 SIMPLE STEPS: You can meditate at any time of the day, in any place and for how long you want. There are several different mediation techniques, and here is the one, which I like the most: . 1)Take a comfortable seated position, ideally with your hips higher than your knees (seat on the cushion, rolled blanket or chair and try to keep your back straight); rest your hands on your knees, close your eyes (or gaze very softly) . 2)Take couple of long rounds of breaths, inhaling deeply though the nose and exhaling fully; this will encourage the state relaxation; . 3)Start bringing your attention to the natural rhythm of your breath and observe as the air gently flows in and out; you may find it helpful to count each inhale and try to reach 10; if you get distracted, go back and start again;

Savasana can be the most difficult part in yoga practice. Although the asana itself looks easy, the relaxation does not always come instantly.
Luckily, there ways in which we can help 😊 we can use: props to position the body more comfortably, aromatic oils and of course the sounds...
I’ve been using the Tibetan Singing Bowl in my classes recently and Savasana never felt so good. Although traditionally the signing bowls are used for meditation, they are also beneficial for dee...p relaxation, stress reduction or holistic healing. This is because playing the bowls produce sounds and therefore vibrations which naturally help us in entering into a deep state of relaxation (and eventually meditation).
