Animal Aid Charity Description

About Us

Our charity is based on the belief that all animals deserve a loving and comfortable home and meeting these needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to getting results for the animals in our care and we all work towards the goal of creating a loving environment, whether in our care or in their new homes, our charity aims to promote health and well being in all the animals we care for.

The History

Animal Aid was founded in 1990 by Susan Geeleher and Kay Sheridan and was granted charitable status in September 1990 by the Charity Commission, registered charity no 1143133. Its main aims are to rescue abused and abandoned cats and to offer them a safe environment with any medical care that the animals require.

At first we rented 6 units from private boarding kennels in Melling; we eventually were able to rent all the units and build a cattery. As the volunteer base grew, in 1992 we were offered a piece of land in Field Lane, Fazakerley at a peppercorn rent and we were able to build 12 kennels, a large cattery and a small administration unit.

In order to fund these activities we opened our charity shop on County Road, Walton, Liverpool in 1995. Unfortunately after 3 years at Field Lane, the owner sold the land for redevelopment and we had to move out. The cats are now housed in a purpose built cattery. We ensure that any person wishing to adopt any of our animals has the necessary home checks to ensure a safe and loving environment before adoption is agreed.

The Charity relies on donations from the public and the income from the shop which is staffed entirely by volunteers - without their help we would not be able to function.

Sorry if I can't reply to all the messages I'm really unwell at the minute. Everything has flared up and now I'm just bed bound for a few days.

Remember our Bruce , the boy we took in one freezing cold night. Look at him now in his new home. No need to justify my actions taking him in that night . This is why.

Baby number five has just lost his fight. So sad so heartbreaking so cruel and so avoidable. Neuter your cats!!! Another innocent life taken because people are ignorant and selfish . This is unforgivable I'm so angry right now but we know nothing could have been done. Thankyou to Jen and Judi for being there for him in his final hours. R.I.P little angel at peace with your siblings now , no pain now. ... Neuter is to save lives ignorance kills innocent babies .

Just look at this. Milky has come out of hiding and is starting to enjoy his new life with his brother Casper. We couldn't wish for anything more than seeing them looking and feeling so loved in their own home. What a most beautiful everafter for the boys. Just really melts your heart I'm sure you'll agree.

The three surviving foster kittens are doing ok today. We had nine but we've lost four really tiny ones over the past week. The two bigger kittens are doing really well at the rescue while these three tinies are holding their own tonight. Jen and her mum Judi sadly lost one yesterday but they are doing everything that they can to keep the last three as happy and cared for as they possibly can. Keep these babies in your prayers and thoughts and let's hope we see them get stronger each day. Thankyou to Jen and Judi you are doing a wonderful thing fostering for us and we are all behind you with good wishes and positive thoughts.

Two little brothers are needing a home. Tommy and Bobby are sixteen weeks old . They can be separated but would be nice to see them rehomed together. They have been brought up in foster. If you would like to meet them then please let me know. Such a beautiful pair of kittens.

Baby Sage is now reserved and will be leaving us sometime next week. Such lovely news for a beautiful little boy. Bruce has now left us and is on his way home with his delighted family . Bruce was taken in off the streets one freezing night by my decision, it caused a bit of a reaction but I do it by heart not rules. Thankgod I made that decision because this totally gorgeous boy who is the most affectionate cat we've known has a home for the rest of his life. Hope this po...kes at those who allowed awful things being said about me and my rescue on a site , because rules weren't followed.....It's called compassion. Well done Bruce he will leave a big hole In our lives such a big soppy cuddle monster . Sage is so cute so no surprises there. Well done boys.

UPDATE, We have an appointment booked in for next week to meet her.
Sadly Buttons is still available, unfortunately the family who reserved her have chosen another beautiful kitten who was also of interest to them . This can sometimes happen and it's not a bad reflection on the family it just means another kitten is getting a home and little Buttons will be getting hers too very soon. Our aim is to find loving homes for all our furry friends so it's great to know they've chos...en their first choice. It can be a very difficult decision choosing a family member and it has to be right for everyone. If you would like to meet Buttons let us know.

Do you recognise this young gorgeous boy? he's only about six months old. He was picked up and taken home by a person who saw him in the rain soaked through and crying. She took him on the bus to her home but couldn't keep him so he's now in our care. We really do believe he has an owner and we want to reunite them as soon as we can . He was all hisses and on his guard when he came in, but with some ear rubs he soon curled over onto his back to sleep. He was picked up in Kensington, no other information about that, then taken by bus to Maghull .If you think he's yours then we require definate proof of ownership please.

Update on the tiny litter of nine. Sadly a third passed away last night. R.I.P little one. The two much larger of the litter are so happy running around playing and having so much fun ,it's truly so lovely to see . The smaller remaining four are now in foster with Jen and her family who live close by . They have lots of experience and were so happy to take all four. We believe these ones are real fighters .They are so hard to keep clean with dirty faces and poopy tails!!!! They will get round the clock care and hopefully all six kittens will be reunited soon . Everything is being done to keep them happy and to see the two running climbing and playing is what we hope to see with the other four . Wishing all of them our best wishes, thoughts and prayers.

Jeffrey is waiting for the family of his dreams to come and meet him and fall in love with him like we have. He's probably best indoors for a few months until he adjusts to another new environment. He's a little star and we want to see him happy and part of a loving family.

Two more kittens due in today and one on Monday. We will then have 20 kittens in temporary accommodation in our shop area . Some are being rehomed very soon and any older ones will eventually go up into our catteries. You can help every single rescue up and down the country by neutering your males and females to reduce the amount of unwanted babies . Be responsible and neuter , it's the best thing you can do for your cats. Love the image I captured with this little one ,just gorgeous.

Casper has already settled in at his new home ,Milky is still very timid so is staying in hiding for now. He comes out to eat and use his litter tray but he just needs to do it in his own time. Martin is a very experienced cat lover so he's doing everything right for the boys. Casper is loving life and is so happy ,he's met so many new friends, he's got this beautiful garden to enjoy......what more could we ask for our rescue furry friends. Just makes everything worthwhile.

This gorgeous girl needs a home. She has been through so much the past year, having numerous litters outside. A very kind lady took her in and asked another rescue to help .Sadly in rescue she felt so worried and she didn't settle straight away so she was sent back. The lady couldn't bear to see her without her kittens living in her yard,so she let her come into her home. Unfortunately she can't keep her for the long term and has asked for our help to find her a new home . If you can offer her a permanent home then let me know and I'll arrange things . She is neutered and I can microchip her .
