Animals In Distress - Torbay & Westcountry

About Animals In Distress - Torbay & Westcountry

Animals in Distress is a local animal welfare charity that takes in, cares for and rehomes over 600 cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs every year. The Animal in Distress Rescue Centre is based at Ipplepen, near Newton Abbot, Devon.

Animals In Distress - Torbay & Westcountry Description

Animals in Distress is a local animal welfare charity that takes in, cares for and rehomes over 600 cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs every year. Animals come to the Rescue Centre for a variety of reasons, including bereavement, illness, breakdown of relationships, financial hardship, straying, cruelty, neglect or abandonment.

When the lives of South Devon’s pets fall apart, Animals in Distress is here to pick up the pieces. We aim to never turn away an animal in distress, and it is our policy to give them the best possible care while they are waiting to be rehomed.

Every effort is made to ensure that prospective owners find the right pet for them. Home checks are carried out, and all animals are checked by our veterinary surgeon. All cats and dogs are microchipped, vaccinated and neutered before rehoming.

Without the help of our generous supporters in the local community and beyond, we simply wouldn’t be able to provide this vital service. Thank you so much for your support.

They've been at it again! If you have seen our new magazine you will have read about our wonderful friends at WiFi SPARK who completed a 10 mile coastal walk during the Summer to raise money for the rescue centre. Last weekend they took part in a 3 hour spin-a-thon! They cycled an incredible 350 miles in 3 hours and raised £470. Their fundraising efforts will continue until the end of the year and we are so very grateful to them! Thank you!

It's October now so we thought it would be OK to mention our Christmas Sponsored Dog walk on Sunday 2nd December. There is still plenty of time to sign up and raise your sponsorship, all monies raised goes to help the animals in our care. Also a big thank you to Amity Veterinary Care who will be judging the best dressed competition again this year. To register email supportus@animalsindistress.uk.com 🎄🐕🐾

Ever since May this year we've had a record number of kittens and pregnant mums needing our help. We currently have almost 30 kittens in our care, and we thought you might like a virtual tour around our Maternity Unit, which isn't normally open to the public. We hope you enjoy your tour! 🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱
To anyone who would like to adopt a kitten, please note that these kittens are not yet ready for rehoming. As soon as they are ready at 12 weeks old, we will put them on our website, and the way to apply for them will be via the online form on each kitten's individual page. All the cats and kittens currently available for rehoming can be seen at https://animalsindistress.uk.com/rehom… /pets-for-rehoming/…/ #rescuekittens #adoptdontshop

Oh dear - Felix is sad because he isn't in the new issue of the Animals in Distress magazine! I expect it's just an editorial oversight, Felix! I'm sure you will be back in the next issue.
Our new magazine is out - if you receive yours in the post, you should already have received it by now. Otherwise you can pick up your copy at the rescue centre or from any of our shops. If you would like to receive future editions by post, please email magazine@animalsindistress.uk.com to go on our mailing list. You can also read the new magazine on our website at https://animalsindistress.uk.com/news/mag azine/

After almost a year here at the rescue centre, Pippin has finally found his best friend forever, called Marshmallow. We have tried bonding Pippin with lots of other female bunnies throughout his time here at the centre but it didn't worked out...until Marshmallow came along! What a gorgeous pair of love bunnies they make! We are so so happy for them!! #rescuerabbit #Adoptdontshop #bunnycompanionship

Meow, my name is Rexi, I am only 3 and I am a giner ninja looking for a really special home where I can have access to a lovely safe garden. I have been kept as an indoor cat, which didn't really suit me too well so would love a garden away from any roads where I can feel the wind through my whiskers. I am an independent soul and prefer to have interaction with people on my terms. I can be affectionate and playful, but I can also be aloof and hate too much fuss. I would need a home without children or other animals with people who understand my ways. If you are able to offer me a very special home for a very special boy, please enquire today.

We had a lovely update from Ellie who was rehomed from us 1 year ago today.
Hi. We adopted Ellie a year ago. What a fantastic choice this was. She has so much life and a very cheeky personality. She has a wonderful relationship with her big brother, Reggie, and looks after him. They love nothing more than a busy walk followed by a snuggle on the sofa together. She settled in straight away, with the extended family there is 7 dogs in total. She's the only lady, but she certai...nly rules the roost! We can't thank Animals In Distress enough for giving us the opportunity to re home Ellie, we couldn't be without her. Such a cute and wonderfully loving girl.
Lot's of love and licks to all the team love Ellie x

We have this fab place to thank for letting us bring Keo (jrt) into our lives back in 2013 and then Wilson (jrt) two years ago they are now such important members of the family and so much more!!

User

We have now had 2 dogs from here, and all we can say is they are the best. We recently lost our first dog from them, they where great and helped us through a difficult time and now they introduced us to our Luna a staffy who has fitted in very well.

User

We had had such a great time! Thanks for organising it. Hope there will be another one!

User

We got Bruno from Animals in Distress nearly 2 years ago. The ticket read........"unsuitable for sml children and has come from a multiple dog household" well let me tell you. Bruno is still nervous around anyone or another dog he does not know but the ones he does are his best friends. He has come such a long way and with time, care patience and love he has become the most loving little dog with a real character of his own. His little overshot bottom jaw makes him look like he is smiling at you. He is fantastic with children and loves to run around and play. We love him so much !!!!!! Keep up the fantastic work you all do. xxxxxxxxx

User

Thanks to everyone at the centre for looking after brody so well over the last few months. Our beautiful big lurcher is turning a corner, and is becoming a a wonderful dog. Without Dave and all his team, I'm sure brody would have been put down before now, simply because he was a big, bouncy puppy. Many thanks to Animals in distress for doing a fantastic job. Much love. Jenny and Shaun Trendel. Keep up the good work!xxx

User

Fantastic rescue centre, found our perfect little kitten here. Staff were great as well. Thank you for all your help, you have made us all very happy. Alfie (pop) has gone to a loving home, where he's going to have a fantastic life. Can't wait to see the transformation of him coming more and more out of his shell.

User

Fantastic charity, that do such great work! Thank-you to the very friendly staff who helped us find the perfect partner for our rabbit. They helped with the initial bonding meeting too, which was fantastic! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to adopt a new family member. Please don't buy from a shop......there are so many loving pets here that need a new 'forever home'!

User

Excellent service, lovely people. Animals are so well looked after. The whole place has been updated so much since we had Marley. Off now to collect our new fur baby 😊

User

Came here years and years ago when it was quite small, rescued some Chinchillas but couldn’t keep them myself sadly. I took them to Exeter to the most renowned animal charity ( I’m sure you know which one I mean) who to my horror refused to help me and wouldn’t take these poor animals which had come from a neglectful home. I then turned up at Animals in Distress in a desperate state asking for them to help me, they were so lovely and didn’t even contemplate on turning them away, and they rang a man in Paignton who kept Chinchillas and that same day a home was found for all 4 of them.. This is why this charity deserves donations, whereas I wouldn’t give to the most well known animal charity again. I look forward to popping in when I’m next in Devon, to see how much you have grown. Looks fantastic

User

An efficient, friendly, clean and very professional experience from start to finish and we now have our beautiful Roman to spoil rotten! Thank you very much to all the extremely dedicated team, you do a fantastic job! Carm & fam x

User

A lovely charity and centre. The staff are all really friendly and dedicated to their jobs. We adopted the newest member of our family last month and I cannot thank them all enough :)

User

A huge thank you to Kara and the cattery team for finding Fluffy a home!

These are amazing people who really do care for cats that come in wether to re home or strays. They give so much love to each cat, so in return they can find the forever home!

If you are looking for a charity to donate to these guys really do the extra mile. Or if you are looking for a cat to join your family, pop in and see them.

Thank you

User

A fantastic local charity with dedicated, hard-working staff - I've been lucky enough to volunteer here for over 5 years and can vouch for the amazing care given to all the animals, and the countless animals who have found their forever homes because of AiD
