About Animate Projects

Animate Projects works at the intersection of animation, film and art. We nurture and harness the creative talent of animators, filmmakers and artists to create thought provoking and inspiring projects. Animate was founded by Abigail Addison and Gary Thomas in 2007 and since then we have worked with over more than 100 animators, filmmakers and artists, to create extraordinary and award-winning work. We work in collaboration with a range of partners, in a variety of contexts – engaging audiences in the gallery, cinema, museum, public spaces, online and through broadcast. Our partners include the Wellcome Trust, The Photographers' Gallery, QUAD Derby, Channel 4, Vivid Projects Birmingham, Art on the Underground, Phoenix Leicester, BFI Southbank, Flatpack Festival Birmingham, London Sinfonietta, FACT Liverpool, and the National Trust. Our awards include: winner of Best Film at the Cutting Edge, British Animation Awards 2008 for Magnetic Movie by Semiconductor; winner of the Grand Prize at Oberhausen International Short Film Festival 2010 for A Letter to Uncle Boonmee by Apichatpong Weerasethakul; winner of Best Experimental Film, Chicago Underground Film Festival 2011 for Slow Action by Ben Rivers; winner of Best Motion Graphics, British Animation Awards 2014 for Apocalypse Rhyme by Oliver Harrison; and winner of the Lumen Prize 2016 Moving Image Award for AfterGlow by boredomresearch. With their extensive experience and expertise, Abigail and Gary continue to build Animate's success, to develop and produce animation and film projects with the best creative talent.
