It's 13 years today since I pitched up on a building site as a rookie chippie/labourer. Got put on a Kango until I had blisters all over my hands, but I can't thank Glynn and Tina Derrick enough for the fabulous start and encouragement they gave me, until I found my feet as a fully fledged carpenter. The DIY SOS Grenfell Tower project that I worked on is being shown on BBC 1, WEDNESDAY 5th SEPTEMBER at 9pm.
It's a two-parter with the second half being shown the week later. If I happen to be on the second programme it'll only be me wandering aimlessly around, lost, as that programme is about the community centre and I was working on the gym! (mainly at the bottom the staircase - blue hard hat, pink high vis)
NEWS UPDATE: Apparently, my bottom has made it on to the show!! I am reliably informed that it is betrousered, but further details are proving rather sketchy. A reward is offered for sightings of it attached to the rest of my body.

Understairs cupboards. A great way to use dead space.

Thursday's job. Rustic shelving from scaffold boards and angle iron, plus a wee bit of routering for the wine glasses. If you look closely in the mirror, you can also the the understairs cupboards I made a couple of weeks before.

Day 2 going well

One year on and I'm back working with DIY SOS. (old photo). It's been a fantastic first day on site. Bit of boxing in for starters.

Soft wood wine rack (and skirting). A great way to fill an unused fireplace.
How to do skirting, including open ends such as this, will be just one of many short courses I will be teaching as soon as my new workshop is finished.

This week's work. Soft wood shelving, to house just a fraction of my customer's fabulous book collection.

NEW VAN, NEW TRADING NAME, NEW BEGINNINGS.
As from 1st January, 2018 I will be trading as Anna Hanton Carpentry. Shortly after that, I will be launching my carpentry classes, including one for absolute beginners. Watch this space for further details and to see the van in its new livery.
Exciting times ahead.

Such a sad day. After owning it for exactly 9 years, 9 months and 9 days, my lovely van has gone to breaker's yard heaven where, I hope, it'll become an organ donor to many more T4's.

Come and see me today at the Portishead Home Show and hear all about the carpentry courses I'll be running in the new year. Somerset Hall,Portishead. 10:30 - 15:30

Last week's boxing-in jobs. Very satisfying.

Walnut floating shelves with routered groove underneath for led lighting.
Each board hand selected from the yard for its beautiful grain.

Rather exciting day today. Got interviewed for the programme.

Day 5 completed on DIY SOS The Big Build in Bristol. This has been the experience of a lifetime. We're averaging over 100 people on site every day, all mucking in, helping each other and working our socks off. I feel very privileged to be a part of the programme.

From this....to this. All neatly hidden away, with lift up door for easy access.

User

Maximum use of space. Fireplace covered over untouched, so can easily be reverted back. Am happy to incorporate existing furniture if possible.

I got zero work done when Anna was here sorting out shelving and a new cupboard for my hallway - she's just so much fun to have around! Superb ideas, great attention to detail, clean and tidy... and just brilliant at her job. Thoroughly recommend!
