Just a word of warning. As the heat spell looks like it's here to stay DONT cut your grass weekly it's not going to do anything but stress it out and make it worse. If u feel you must cut it then cut it high well over 1/3 of the length of the grass blade. DO NOT feed it now either. There is a number of hose pipe bans on at the moment so think twice about using the water that we desperately need to water your grass. Watering it in the heat of the sun will only damage it mor...e. Most of the water will now run off the surface as the crust has formed. Leaving the grass to grow longer will protect the roots from the sun. If you are set on watering it and have water butts or storage containers for watering then do it first thing in the morning or last thing at night so it has time to break the crust and soak in! It's better to leave the grass grow longer right now and deal with it at a later date. It can be brought back to green when it's been long. Once it's dead due to short regular cutting there is nothing you can do but replace it!

Before and after of my own garden. It's a case of the cobblers shoes. When you landscape and maintain people's gardens for a living then your own gets neglected. Finally after a year of stop starting it's almost finished. Just need to sort the woodwork out on the conservatory and I'm done!

One year later and the rose garden and long border is coming on a treat. 99% grown from seed and plug in a 8x6ft greenhouse. Lots of jiggling about to be done at the back end of the year so that next year it will be just as we want it.

One year on and the sempervivum wall is looking amazing. Planted many of theses in my years of gardening but none have grown so spectacular. The Buxus Sempervirens ( box hedging) cut back and shaped and all looking neat and tidy.
